They open at 7am and it's best to get there as early as you can before 7am in order to stand in line. They may give you a same day appointment if they're not busy, but if you go on a Friday or a Monday it will be unlikely to get a same day appointment unless it's a life or death situation. They will usually give you an appointment for the next day if you have an itinerary that says you're traveling within 3 days. I just got mine 2 weeks ago. You go in one day and fill everything out and pay and you go pick it up the next day. Mine was about $220 because I got charged and extra fee to get it fast and I also got the passport card. The card they send it in the mail about a week later. Hello...you go to the Federal building on Wilshire blvd and get an appointment and you will get your passport. They say come within 2weeks of trip, but when I went it was too early and they said come back within 1 week. Got and appt on Wednesday to come back Thursday and picked up my daughter passport Friday at 1pm..just came back from DR...check the website becuz some days they are closed for just appointment and others days full service. That's entirely up to you. To get in the line and not be turned away you need to be in line before 6am. If you get there around 6am you will be in the back of the line which usually wraps around the building by 6am (we were there at 4am, and 2am on the days we went in, people camp with pillows and blankets, and chairs and such). It gets hot in the car once the sun starts coming up. Plenty of people bring their babies in strollers. Even bring a play pen for waiting, and once the line starts moving send one parent to the car to put the play pen away, and the other can watch the baby in the stroller. Then have both come back to tag team watching the baby. Plenty of people bring a stroller to walk the baby around the building while they wait too. Also, dont be a fool and think you can leave baby in the car alone while someone is in line, the line doesnt move fast and baby will suffer the consequences (happened with a puppy there and I had to break into the car to save it).

There is no straight number. You will not be able to call anyone and actually speak to a live person. The only way I was able to speak to someone was to go there before 6 am and wait in line to speak with a live person.

Yes! It's definitely a process they will only get it done if you are 3 days before the trip. I just went through the same thing. You have to show up early. I suggest being there by 5am. People start lining up at 12AM. It's an entire day process and if you're not leaving in the morning,the following day, you will have to return to pick up your passport. You will also need a copy of your birth certificate and all the paperwork that follows in getting your passport. Including new pictures and a copy of your flight itinerary. A new fee will also be charged and you don't get anything reimbursed. Make sure you get into the Will Call line. It took me 2 days to complete. Good luck on your voyage!

Yes but you have to go really early (the line starts to form around midnight of the night before) to schedule an appointment for another day and must have proof of flight. They say you can come 72 hours before your flight but I went one week before and was able to get an appointment. Don't wait until the last minute though as the people ahead of me wanted to fly the next day but couldn't get an appointment so soon

U dont need to line up that early....but the earlier the better. Be in line NO LATER than 630am....if u line up as late as 630am; it will take longer and/or u may need to pickup your completed passport the next day. It does sound like you're taking a risk to wait until.3 days before but it's safe or you can go weeks before and they can give you an appointment closer to the date you need to fly out. I waited until the 73 hours before my trip for 3 of us and it worked out. The person before me got an appointment 2 weeks later and it was on target for when she needed it.

Ask the Russians if a family member can get your passport. If yes, then go to Columbia with the Columbian passport. When someone gets your us passport from the Russians make them FedEx it to wherever you are. Take your old us passport with you in case of this plan does fall apart. You can use your old us passport at the us consulate to get a new passport and get back to US in the worst case.
