Hello...you go to the Federal building on Wilshire blvd and get an appointment and you will get your passport. They say come within 2weeks of trip, but when I went it was too early and they said come back within 1 week. Got and appt on Wednesday to come back Thursday and picked up my daughter passport Friday at 1pm..just came back from DR...check the website becuz some days they are closed for just appointment and others days full service. There is no such thing as a temporary permit. Do a Google search and you will find information on expedited passport
