While on a road trip from Colorado to Key West in February 2022, we spent two nights here in the Fort Pickens Campground. It was an enjoyable, flat approximately 1 mile walk to the Fort Pickens. The fort is an interesting, historic place to explore. We enjoyed walking the western perimeter on the seawall.

$25 per vehicle to get in. If you want you can spend the whole day there. Beside the historical site , there are trails and miles of white sand beaches you can hangout and explore. No shop for food and water so you have to plan ahead.

Great place to explore, especially if you enjoy history and beautiful scenery. We went kinda late but plan on coming back and camping! It's definitely a place you want to spend a whole day at so plan for that. Ready to go back and explore the rest. Bottom line definitely give this place a visit.

I downloaded the fort Pickens self guided tour app. And I highly recommend doing it. The app takes you through all of the points of interest and explains in detail each number. A great self guided tour. I had a lot of fun. I highly recommend. It was to crowded when I went. More people were showing up as I was finishing up my tour and was starting to get really busy. I recommend going early morning.

It's 20 dollars now, 40 for a season pass. 10 dollars if you walk or ride bike
Yes they do. You can call them and they can tell you the dates. They wear the full attire, tell stories, have different stations in the fort. Its pretty awesome!
They are not allowed on the beaches, in the forts or visitor centers. They are allowed in the campground providing they are on a leash 6ft or less.
I being local 34 years..buddies and I fish ft pickens 4 5 days a week..it just opened Tuesday..the camp grounds has been closed for months..discovery center now and then. Local restrooms depending what days discovery center opens..everyday differs..why? Don't know. Best bet is to call entrance personnel..with covid18 etc we are at 50% capacity..good luck..Langdon beach restroom is generally open for beach..weather is only factor here..June to November is hurricane season
There is a place called Shaggys that has a charter run out of it.
Yes, the America the Beautiful annual pass is accepted for entry there as well as Fort Barrancas, Johnson Beach and Opal Beach areas of Gulf Islands National Seashore.
There's a museum and several outdoor historic monuments to look at and learn from. No cost after u get in guarded gate. The beaches are wonderful to find shells and starfish on. Please only leave your tracks in the sand and if you have a spare moment, please pick up a piece of beach trash if you see it. #idreamofwhitesand
No additional, just one entry fee
https://www.nps.gov/guis/planyourvisit/fort-pickens-area.htm click here for all current info
If you have a national parks pass it covers the entry as it is part of the NPS. Otherwise it is $20 for a car. $10 for a bike.
There are dog park and pet related facilities all around the trails to the fort. Fort the fort itself I don't think so thought but I didn't see any sign saying they weren't
Yes. Not at the moment. The park is shutdown
Beautiful park with great historical stories of the fort.
No Charge to go into the Fort. But I believe there is a parking charge.
It is free for handicap, disabled, military active and retired. But they were charging $8 per vehicle up to 5 people when we went in February.
Just a guess, maybe a mile or two. Nice bike ride!
Yes! Pretty bare but neat experience.
No it's closed until December the 2nd may also be extended
...Yes. And it is good nationwide at any... ANY National Park.
If you have a lifetime pass it will get you into the park for free. It does not include the fee for nightly camping but will get you half off of the camping fee when you make your reservations
If you're going for the Fort and not for camping, It's sun up to sundown.
I would assume you do. Unless you're older than 65
8 am
Not common at all that you see any alligators at Ft. pickens but also not impossible
There are plenty places. But hard to park on the side the road
If you have any form of military or veteran ID, the whole car is completely free.
They are closed right now due to storm damage from Hurricane Sally.
Site A is open. It has electric hookups but no water. They have a dump station also. They are open September and October.
I cannot help. Buy my pass at the entry post from the park official.
Not all of them. FWC Officer stated they were working to get the parks fully staffed to allow for cleaning and maintenance.
Yes they give military discounts I'm not sure about the senior citizens.
Good call, took the words right out of my mouth!
Per their website, the Fort Pickens area is open during the following times: March 1 - October 31: 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (last entry at 8:00 p.m.) November 1 - February 28: 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Year-round: Historic Fort: 8:00 a.m. to sunset Bookstore & Discovery Center: 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Campground Registration Office: 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Yes, very much. Although you must know that they'll charge $20/car ( if not a need National Park Service pass holder)
$20 a carload, bikes/walkers are less. Keep the receipt for reentry for 7 days. Free entry for active duty, retired, and vets on disability. Also free entry for 4th grade students and their family.
Any of the Blue Angel shows has traffic very backed up in Pensacola beach. Roads get congested quickly because of their small size. Appropriately I once saw a bumper sticker there: "So many snowbirds so little time." And it is true. Very busy with all the snowbirds.
You mean Confederate? But no they never had the chance to occupy it but they did occupy nearby Barrancas
No large animals and beach walk is 1/4mile or less on both sides of tent area
The prices have gone up a lot.
It's up to the park Rangers and being it shuts down at 7pm I don't think so. Now if you have a camping permit that's a different story.
They put spickets close to road every 4 sites or so..... must share now for the tent area.
Yes. I did see a ferry departing a dock near Fort Pickens and also saw one near a dock at Pensacola Beach (assuming it was same ferry). I would guess that taking the ferry may be quicker to get to Fort P. due to the 20mph speed limit on the road plus there is an entry fee ($20 I think) for each vehicle to drive to Fort P.
11 am
Not around the fort or on the beaches.
Yes at both the entrance gate and gift shop. Cool place with fantastic beaches, have a great time! 👍
They have limits on amount of tents per site but yes you can, check the website for availability
No reservations, and it is per car.
Call them and see. While some things have become more strict over the years some have been made easier. It would be a nice place for it if they allow it.
The Fort Pickens Museum is open daily from 9 AM to 4:30 PM, except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, andNew Year's Day.
Yep so worth it
Yeah sunrise for sure. I go there frequently.
I'm not sure, but its very reasonable and the park is beautiful. Check their website
Fort pickens has a pretty cool variety as camping spots. U can have a campijg spots for 20 dollars a night but no electricity " if i remember" correctly. The 40 dollars a night is electrical, water, everything. Any of these spots u rent for a night or weekend you are on an island of paradise with showers/bathrooms. Pitch a tent and bring some friends enjoy yourself
Have a good day
It was open in February 2018.
I'd call to make sure. I've never seen a campground closed for a holiday.
The government shutdown is over, but some departments may take a day to get back. It most likely will be, but I'd call Monday morning to verify before driving out there.
Yes, Ft Pickens is closed due to government shut down.
Road is open. I am there now.
Yes it opened October 19th
No. It's against the law in National Park units like Gulf Islands National Seashore.
Sorry but I cannot answer your question on that
Yes, I believe it was $10 a car. It was worth it! Plenty of beach access and of so much to see.
Yes and plenty of parking. Awesome place especially if you love history. Was there a few weeks ago.
When we were at Fort Pickens the weekend of September 14 it was open.
THEY HAD A POWER OUTAGE ISSUES SAT
$20, with access to Fort Pickens, beaches, etc....ALSO other area forts for 7 days. They will give you a map of what's included
20.oo car load
They do a sorta reenactment 2 times a day I think they call it a soldiers story. Pretty interesting.
Dogs can walk in trails and sidewalks. Make sure you pick up after them. Not in forts or beach is what we were told. There is a campsite there I noticed a lot of people had pets there.
The weather will be great this morning, low winds and calm surf. The wind will pick up later this evening. But its the beach.... Is there ever a bad time to marvel at Gods work? Well except in a hurricane.
If you are a senior 65 or over you can get a lifetime pass for $80
Yes $15 for a week pass or $30 for a pass that is good for a year from the purchase date
Yes, if your pass is still valid.
Fort Pickens is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday be Christmas Day times may different
Will be tomorrow
Don't rely on Google Maps for closures & openings. Check out the Parks website: nps.gov/GUIS They update frequently.
I have read where the road will be closed until at least December.
Check the parks website for updates on the campground. They monitor and update frequently.
