It's a nice treck from the parking lot up to the summit overlook.

Great views, 3000 ft. hike to observation tower.

Beautiful! I will be back!

Awesome views + gorgeous drive on the way up. Give yourself plenty of time - it does take at least 30 minutes to get to the top from any of the access roads.

Yes. It doesn't feel at all that you are climbing that high.
No, but if it ices the roads enough, it can be closed for a temporary period
I believe 4 states counting NC... Tennessee, Virginia, south Carolina...
The peak is free and gorgeous! However, stop at the restaurant and get some lemon berry cake and hot cocoa!!
Check weather, it may seem warm but at 6500 feet it maybe ice which will close roads. Otherwise it is always open.
Distance from the parking lot to peak us 380 yards I believe. Not far but fairly steep. There are a couple of rest spots along the way if you need it.
Yes. But they have to be on a leash no longer than 6 ft and not allowed in restrooms or restaurant.
No it's open and the parkway is open also.
Extremely dangerous on a bike. Blind spots, very curvy road etc. It honestly scared me to death I was the passenger and had to close my eyes
From the entrance at the Blue Ridge Parkway to the top is approximately 3 miles. Once you park it is about a 300 yard walk to the observation deck. When we went the parking area was very icy. They were actually closing it as we went down because of icy conditions. It is a good idea to check conditions before you go.
I was there 2 weeks ago ....they had snow after we were there so roads are closed
We took the Balsam loop and I was able to navigate even with a boot cast.

There is a campground, but staying there required advanced reservations, you can sign up online
Very dog friendly! Even our chihuahuas enjoyed them. Dogs are even allowed on the viewing platform.
They'll see you way before you see them, grandfather is a better venue to see those animals.
Yes. Very easy to get to and parking surprisingly close to the top with bathrooms and a store. Easily accessible trials near the parking area. Highly recommend!

YES, you can carry firearms concealed in NC State Parks. It's the law.
Nope... Take a fold up bike like I've done and ride down ... What a rush😊
Mt Mitchell state park!
You drive almost to the top where there's a big parking lot then you walk a few hundred yards to the summit/lookout
If you camp, you can hike up when you want.
It seemed perfectly safe to me, and we saw several bicyclist on the day we visited. Be sure to eat your Wheaties the day of your ride up. The summit would be an awesome place to park. If need be I'll coast it back down for you 😂👍🏁🏇
Mt Mitchell State Park is on top of the highest mountain east of the Mississippi. Not a lot of water up there.
