My dad and I want to watch the sunrise from Mt Mitchell in a couple of weeks..is that possible to park in that parking area and walk up to that platform? (I've been there before) Or is it all closed off that early in the morning?

If you camp, you can hike up when you want.

You will not be able to get to the top and watch the sunrise as the sun rises around 6 a.m. they do not open till 7

They open at 7 a.m.

That is an awesome idea, I will email them about the possibility of a few sunset and sunrise events throughout the year.

The park doesn't open till 7, but there are other overlooks in the area that would give you awesome views!!

I believe it is open 24/7 except for snow and ice.
