FS 472 road from Black Mountain Campground to the BR Parkway is closed to vehicles, bikes and foot traffic. Neals Creek Rd is open
No, the river is too shallow to kayak.
This is a Government Campground...Cradle of Forestry. Dogs of any type as long as they are well behaved and non-aggressive. Must be on lead all the time.
Unfortunately, no. The Forest Service requested a full closure of that area. Primitive camping at Briar Bottom campground is not allowed while the facilities are closed for the season.
About 3 miles outside of the campground there is service
Probably not, and would be difficult to haul one up there. It's around 10 miles of difficult curving roads followed by 2 miles of a dirt road to the campground.
$25 per night. Max stay is 14 days in a 30 day period
Yes dogs are allowed and a lot of the trails are quite steep so they will get a good workout!

This is a great place to camp and hike Mt Mitchell. The trail head starts at the campground. The avg time is 7 1/2 hours round trip, some are faster and some are slower. Start early, it gets dark fast.
Black Mountain Campground opens on April 15, 2020. At the end of March gates will still be closed and so will the bathrooms. Reservations are available at www.recreation.gov. Please visit, if you can, after April 15.
Black Mountain Campground has a couple of electric sites that are for a tent or RV.
It is in the middle of nowhere. You want to be away from media, this is the place. You can call up to find out about the winter camping
Yep there are a number of them at the campground. Nothing perfectly secluded but not bad.
All of them are great. I would pick one that's close to the bathrooms though. I would give specific sites but the map on the website is down
Campers and Rvs are allowed. Thank you for your interest. We hope to see you next season when Black Mountain Campground reopens in April!
Marion or Burnsville would be the closest, several small Baptist Churches nearby but I dont believe any Catholic ones.
All three of these folks have given good answers. Thank you! Reservations are offered. However, if you travel very far, it is a good idea to be sure you have a spot when you arrive. Sometimes this campground is very busy and you might not be able to get a spot without a reservation. Thanks for your inquiry. Happy Camping!
