Is it possible to access the park via car? We went a month ago and the Blue Ridge Parkway was closed so we couldn't find our way there. Or did we just miss something? Going to Asheville this weekend and would like to get to MM and hike a bit. Thx

Yes. Very easy to get to and parking surprisingly close to the top with bathrooms and a store. Easily accessible trials near the parking area. Highly recommend!

The only way to Mount Mitchell state park is via the parkway all depends on the weather

The store and bathrooms are closed during the winter. And it's a long ride to hold it.

My dad and I want to watch the sunrise from Mt Mitchell in a couple of weeks..is that possible to park in that parking area and walk up to that platform? (I've been there before) Or is it all closed off that early in the morning?
