Gorgeous, rough terrain to get to park and hike. Not paved! Big dips on the road. There is rope to hang on too on the hike down.. Beautiful fall!

Abiqua Falls Trailhead, as shown on Google maps is completely wrong. I suggest using AllTrails to get there. Beware of one bad portion of the road in where lower vehicles might high center, or worse if your rig is not in good shape. Park …

We were able to drive the truck all the way up to the dead end and we just walked/hiked the way down and the way back up. The waterfall is beautiful and the water super clear. The hike might be a little difficult for little kids but doable.

Great hike, but it is a BUSY place! If you have a high clearance vehicle, Jeep, etc. you can drive all the way to end. Small parking area at the end. If not stop as far in as you dare and hike the rest in. Just a mile or so from the road. …

Yeah its really steep. But I believe if you take the path heading to the right at the Y not to far in that its a less steep route. Older folks seemed to take that way instead of going the left route and using ropes for multiple steep parts.
No, this is a very steep and difficult trail. Unfortunately it is not wheelchair accessible.
There definitely is a path that's not to bad. Kids and old folks took it. Drive miles down to the end almost there is a white sign on a tree like 200 yards before a little park area That's the trail. Then 80 yards in it forks. The left is quicker and way steeper. The right fork goes around the drop off and works back to the left. Its the easy trail. Kids where all over when I was there.
First time I went there was in a Subaru Outback wagon. Second time I drove my Malibu MAXX. I was able to drive all the way to the trailhead in both rigs, just take it SLOW & EASY. There is one treacherous corner with deep ruts, but you can make it all the way to the small parking lot where the trail begins. Good luck. Wear good sturdy shoes!!
No there is not.
The State forest area is currently closed to public access because of the forest fire damage. There are no gates though, so you can theoretically drive right up to the trailhead. But they will fine you if you get caught.
Yes it is still open and currently far from the wildfires
I'd say just over 2.5 miles, maybe 2.7 miles one way. A little over 5 miles total (out and back).
I'd say it depends on their age. If they're pre-teens, probably not unless you have a couple other capable adults to help on the steeper and more slippery sections of the trail. The fireroads to the trail head is currently covered in snow, so unless you also have a capable snow vehicle to get there (and back), you may need to park at the top and hike in the snow a couple miles down to the trailhead, then do the slippery bit to the river, then walk on the rocky trail along the river before reaching the falls.
People have fallen out there. Not sure if theres been any fatalities
The actual trail is maybe 20 min (DIFFICULT terrain!) However, most vehicles can't make it to the trailhead and therefore have to park along the gravel road and walk. This will result in more time, how much depends on where you give up and park. Buy a Jeep, lift it and put some 35 in tires on that bad boy. This way you can enjoy the offroading in the area as well.
It's very cold in general but people do swim there
Crooked Finger road turns to gravel, you then drive about a mile and take your very first right(its the only actual road you can turn on, the others are obvious trails) continue on that road until your vehicle can go no further, then park and walk along road till you reach the end (there is a gate). At this point you should begin seeing trails leading DOWNHILL. Follow those trails for the view of a lifetime...
No, I don't think the fires were near that area.
It depends on where you park. If you take the rough road all the way down to the gate it's maybe 40 minutes round trip. But the trail requires going down very muddy slopes with ropes and over rocks and trees to get to/from the waterfall.
I agree with both posts about parking. There is a long gravel road and people park on the side of the road....the closer the better. Well, I have a small car and made it in/ out of the gravel road.
