Awesome place to spend any day! This was my first experience in hot springs and loved it! I definitely will be coming back to camp for a night 🙌🏻 Check out my review on the “Bradford Path” hike into these springs. Do your research on the hiking path you want to take into the creek.

Beautiful and totally worth it, but prepare well if you're not an experienced hiker!

The hot springs were relaxing and felt wonderful. Hike has some steep spots. People at the hot springs were all very friendly.

3.6 mile out and back trail that’s part of the PCT. I always use Bowen Ranch Campground to access the trail (10$ day use per person and $15 per person a night to camp). Clothing optional so caution bringing children. Also, it’s a downhill hike so when you leave the sun will be out and it’s all uphill, bring lots of water. Usually find people drinking or partying so I like to go early in the morning to avoid the party goers. One of my favorite hot springs, 7 in total.

On the mountain side the hike is 3 miles each way. I think from the Hesperia side it's about half that. Aztec falls is not close to the hot springs.
@gabriel Munoz little known fact, if you turn right and go up and around the ranch where they charge for parking you get much closer and park for free. Takes me about 20 minutes to get from the top of the trail to the river from where i park. Once past the ranch just remember three left turns to get in, three right turns to get out!
Just go around the ranch x) once past it the road forks 3 times, take all lefts in, all rights out. You'll end up seeing others parked in the area I'm talking about, just pay attention and do not pass the 4x4 only trail sign
How much is the paid parking and how much shorter is the hike?
According to the SB National Forest site: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/sbnf/recarea/?recid=34152 The Deep Creek hot springs have 97% fatal brain eating amoeba which enters through the nose... so definitely do not submerge your head on hot springs!
There currently is plenty of water, complete with a couple waterfalls and more than one hot spring pool!
Epic cliff dives down river from the hot springs about an hours hike, cross the bridge &keep going. Rocks will have graffiti all offer them.
Actually the technical reason given that you can't camp there is because of the endangered toad species that lives in the area.
There are rattle snakes in the summer and you may have to carrie them back up. I dont recommend taking a dog on your first trip down.
Not bad. Lots of Raven, Scrub Jay, Thrashers, Hummingbird, a resident Blue Heron, Tohee and I've even seen a Bald Eagle. I'm not a bird watcher so I don't know good places from bad.
Yes, Blacks Beach, except before the trail head that every one is used to one must take the trail that continues to the south along the tip top ridge then allow yourself to meander down the east face. It takes one through a beautiful fresh water cut canyon all the way to the beach! Get ready!
Sun. eve... 31 degrees Mon. 35 Tues. 37 Wed. 39 Thurs. 29 degrees...no rain in forecast.
~ 3 miles. Not too difficult except for one section at the end which is very steep.
It is open yes. You will not see any trail entrance signs or anything but it is open
No
Always open, always clothing optional.
There is most likely someone camping any day of the week.
If you can camp too
No idea. It was a pretty chill spot, but people do stupid things so I wouldn't be surprised.
I don't think your supposed to but no one will check
1.75 miles to the springs, uphill the whole way back to the parking area.
If you parked at the private Bowen Ranch its a 2 mile hike downhill.
It's hot enough to make you sweat and have to get out occasionally to cool off. So above 90 f
Yes! Access through the 173 trailhead, I went a few weeks ago. Wear good hiking shoes with traction for the descent into the basin area
I am not sure. I know Deep Creek Hot Springs is closed right now but I don't know about the lake. I believe they have a number on their website you can call.
Yes I prefer to hike there in the winter it's much easier to hike in cooler temperatures. The hotsprings water temperatures won't get cooler since it's coming from deep from the Earth plus less people go there in the winter. I've done this hike many times even in the rain. Even though I don't recommend it in the rain because the hike is strenuous and would be very slippery....
That's a great question. It's land regulated by government but has not become a park. Keeping this location desalate and natural in it's very own is what makes this location amazing. When politics get involved complicate things. Battle over planning ownership money power takes the natural energy away and it wouldn't be the same. Healing from the Spirit of mother nature and connection with ones soul is what I seek as I spend my time in this beautiful location. Any questions or need a tour partner let me know would be happy to show you the way and hidden treasures
The entrance to the harder trail doesn't have a designated parking area, but there is enough space on the side of the road to accommodate around 30 or so cars, so you're good.
Yes. The highway turns to dirt at the end but that is where you park and hike from.
To avoid the ranch start in Lake Arrowhead. Not in Hesperia. Look me up on Airbnb experiences. I do guided hike tours there.
Horseback riding from Oak Springs hiking from Bowen Ranch or Hesperia spillway
Hiway 18
Theres two ways to hike in. Bowen Ranch (you pay to park there) or Bradford Ridge Path. Both show up on Google Maps.
If you come up to start on the lake Arrowhead side look me up on Airbnb experiences. I do guided hiking tours there.
You can up to a point, and then the only way to get down there is to hike on foot.
Word to the wise there is poatable spring water there so lighten your load by hiking empty containers in and filling up by source water. Aka the spicket. Otherwise it's just like Chloe said.
It's on Public Lands. So....yeah. If Bowen Ranch is closed (I doubt it) you can get to Deep Creek through Lake Arrowhead using the Bradford Ridge Path. It's completely free and it's a paved road all the way to the trailhead. If you are coming from LA it's actually a much closer drive.
There are several paths to the hot springs. Bowen ranch if you want to park and pay. Right before Bowen ranch there's a BLM trail called freedom trail that you can leave from and park there it's free but you need a vehicle with Clarence you can get back there on a two-wheel drive if you have clearance. There's also goat trail which is just beyond Bowen ranch. You can also access the Pacific Crest trail via big Bear or you can access it from Arrowhead lake Road in Hesperia. Hesperia route you can park on the side of the road it's a little bit longer but it's not as steep going out. Bowen ranch is definitely not your only option even though the hiking apps always tell you to park at Bowen ranch.
About 1 hour each way
Take a tester and let us know 👍
No. The trail is rough and uneven. A bicycle would be dangerous at certain, short points, and impossible in others. It's a 1.8 mile hike from Bowen Ranch, and takes 30-45 minutes going down, 45-60 minutes coming back up.
Camping is prohibited but you can pay to camp at Bowen Ranch. Camp fires, for obvious reasons are also prohibited. Stop your friends from starting them...it only takes one spark.
There are two ways to go most people pay and can park there or you can park anywhere if you go the back way either way you will not get towed
No
Yes. Park at Bowen Ranch for $5 per person. Cash only exact change. Pack out all your trash and bring plenty water, you will need it
His neighbor usually staffs the gate, and all you have to do is pull up, turn off your engine, fill out an envelope and deposit the use fee ($5/person for day use, $10/person for overnight camping) and you're all set. She's very friendly and happy to answer simple questions.
Yes but your dog should be well behaved and snake trained, it's a wild desert after all...
Search Deep Creek Hiking Area on Google maps and then take Bradford Ridge Path. It's on hwy 173
The hot springs are day use only, and it is dangerous to hike there at night. Bowen Ranch doesn't allow incoming visitors after nightfall, so you'll need to come in via another route (but shouldn't, because it's dangerous).
Gate closed at 9pm bring plenty of water or they will not let you in.
Most visitors are both pretty friendly as well as considerate, and you should be able to chat a bit or just relax without being bothered.
I wouldn't recommend doing the hike at night. There are some pretty sketchy and slippery parts. Plus, your car gets towed after 9 or 10pm
Nope however low profile vehicles may have trouble with bottoming out. For the most part right until one chooses to go to Bowen ranch or around it's perfectly fine for any vehicle. Going around gets a lil mo hairy so to speak. Muahaha, happy travels. Please keep place clean hiking out, what you hike in.
Yes they are free unless you go through Bowen Ranch they charge you $5 per person to park and then you hike down and it is definitely clothing optional
So for deep creek hot springs like if you plan on camping at Bowen ranch it's 10 dollars per person per night.... There's more than enough room for an rv just be wary that the road is unpaved.... But if your comfortable driving the rv you shouldn't have any problems.... The busiest over night iv seem was on new years.... Typically only 3-4 car actually spend the night up at Bowen
e
No, you'll be fine. It will be cold, but not freezing
I believe it's open everyday of the year, but not 100% certain on that. That said, you can only drive as far as the parking lot, the rest of the way you will need to walk and it's about a 45-minute to an hour hike. There is apparently a way if you have an off-road vehicle that can get you just a little bit further, I would say about 10 to 15 minutes further in if you were on foot, but that off-road area that leads to near the front of the trail is a bit difficult to find from what I understand
Is the freedom trail hard to drive if you have a car
So.... It doesn't really snow much at the Creek. It has before, but nothing crazy. Usually just a little blow over from Arrowhead and Big Bear. When you drive into the park you can see if there's snow on the ground. In terms of camping, technically you're only allowed to camp in the parking area, Bowen Ranch. Feel free to camp down in the springs but you do run the risk of being fined IF a ranger in the area comes down. But that is very very rare.
7am-10pm $5 Per Person In Car
You should be able to gps to Bowen Ranch parking lot. Fee is $5 per occupant in vehicle.
Never a problem. Should be easy to stay that way. Be smart, safe, respectful, and responsible.
This is pretty far from where the fires are happening in LA... You should be fine! Do mind the weather and the heat.
We were rally concerned about this and asked many people. From the more remote Trailhead that is free right off the highway is completely paved except for a very short distance. The old jalopy made it fine. To the shorter "pay to park" Trailhead I do not know, but I suspect it is accessible by normal car given the amount of traffic at the hot springs.
It's $5 per person ($10 for overnight). It's very important that when he pull up you turn off your engine. Also, no glass! If you plan on bringing beer or beverages, get cans or use plastic bottles. The lady up front also offers trash bags to tidy up and bring your trash out with you. Take caution with hiking back when it's darker.
