Is it a good place to bird watch?

Not bad. Lots of Raven, Scrub Jay, Thrashers, Hummingbird, a resident Blue Heron, Tohee and I've even seen a Bald Eagle. I'm not a bird watcher so I don't know good places from bad.

Some small birds as well as a few waterfowl

There are birds around but I wouldn't really consider it a decent place to observe them, especially so without binoculars.
