Early OR late, when the sand isn't hot enuff to burn their feet. Carry extra water for you and them.

We went a couple of weeks ago and was perfect and empty almost. Was warm from sun but not enough to make sand hot. River is running lite so dogs can cross and play in the beach like area where river meets sand. Don't miss out on late night at the dunes either its a whole different experience.

Strong emphasis on the extra water, as it's definitely drier on the Dunes than you'd expect. If it's colder and/or windy, the sand wouldn't get too hot but earlier and later in the day is definitely good advice
