Open fires are prohibited when fire danger is high.
Campfires are only permitted in designed fire rings along the Medano Pass Primitive Road, and at Sand Creek backcountry site, but not in any other backcountry location. Medano pass camping, only dead and down wood 4" or less in diameter may be gathered in the preserve for campfire use in the preserve. Wood and charcoal fires are permitted only in established fire pits in numbered, designated campsites.
