Awesome walk along this very scenic perserve! Overcast skies made it very comfortable. A few mosquitos close to the water...make sure you have repellant!

We stopped by this preserve to get off the highway and walk around. What a pleasant surprise. The boardwalk along the river provides lots of photo ops. We saw many birds, squirrels and rabbits. The wetlands viewing area was just beautiful and we spotted a variety of water birds. The visitors center looked interesting but was closed. Nonetheless they had a nice picnic area next to the visitor center. Pit toilets were the only bathrooms we noticed. Definitely worth stopping here.

Beautiful walking area. Lots of parking. I imagine sunsets here are amazing here. Birds everywhere, springs hosts lots of flowers, and paths are easy to access. It loses 1 star for being a place you should probably visit with someone, I wouldn't visit this place alone.

Beautiful nature spot. From Sacramento, I recommend driving down the Delta and crossing over the Walnut Grove bridge to connect to River Rd and eventually the Twin Cities Rd. Peaceful drive on a Sunday afternoon.

No, I'm sorry, dogs are not allowed on or off leash at the Preserve. Thank you for asking!
If you hike to the east side of the Preserve, which is not possible right now (25-Mar), you can see some wild flowers along the railroad tracks, but nothing spectacular, if I am recalling correctly. I'd go up into the Sierra's later in the Spring, or Mount Diablo now.
Professional photographs may require a permit. Check with rangers/volunteers first. Personal photos are fine.
Yes, there are concrete trails that start near the visitor center and lead you through the preserve, the concrete paths are seperated by the road but all you have to do is cross the street(there is a crosswalk) and follow the rest of the trail. You will end back at the parking lot. There are no official guides but there is usually a docent in the visitor center who can answer questions.
Likely not, but you can call the office and they'll let you know conditions.
Yes but you have to transport it from the parking lot to the launch. I suggest using kayak wheels unless you have a light weight kayak.
No. Dogs are not allowed at most nature preserves for several reasons. Contamination, quiet, careless owners, "accidental" predation, etc.
Thank you for asking! Drones are not allowed to be flown from Preserve trails or facilities.
Hi Tabitha. Yes, parking and river access is free. The Preserve parking lots and trails are open to the public.
There's two safe comfortable hotels in galt, soon to be three, Comfort Inn on twin cities, and best Western by more for less
It closes at 5 but if you get late coming backthere's a one-way exit that has the tire spikes you can get out but no one can come in
No pets allowes
No but they do have a Receiving Office to go to about the trail
The Preserve is open 9am - 5pm.
No, dogs are not permitted.
Fishing at the Preserve is allowed only from a boat on the waters of the main channel of the Cosumnes River and sloughs accessible from the Mokelumne River. No fishing from the banks, bridge, or along the roadway is allowed.
You cannot see the bats from within the Preserve. They roost under the bridge where Franklin Road crosses the Mokelumne River.
The Preserve closes at 5:00, so unless you are paddling with an approved group you cannot use their dock. REI is hosting three more bat paddles this season.
No, there is a place to launch kayaks and canoes, but no swimming allowed.
Yes. Bass and crappie, occasional striper..
Yes definitely! Most of the paths are fairly wide and even paved. Very stroller friendly.
No cost to enjoy this wonderful wildlife refuge... A great place for the whole family. And a great place for kids to learn and connect with nature..
Free parking, but limited parking can get full on weekends.. weekdays is usually fine..
Probably if you locked yourself in your car with the windows up.....but definitely not in the wild.
No, you do not have to pay to get in. There are, however, donation boxes if you would like to contribute.
No, trails are only for walking. Also, No dogs allowed.
