Make an appointment if possible. Things will go much more quickly. The clerks here work hard and do everything they can to get people out as soon as possible. Make sure you have done your homework and have all the required paperwork.

I need to set an appointment to transfer a title and get plates
Hi, Pat, You will keep your plate and registration. You will need to sign the title over to your buyer and give them a Bill of Sale (there is a copy on our website at www.PolkCountyIowa.gov/treasurer. You may return your plates either by mail or use our drop box located in the front of the building and include a note with the sale date and verifying your address. If there is $10 of credit left on the plate we will apply for a refund through the Iowa DOT for you. You can expect to receive a check in 2-4 weeks from the State of Iowa. Hope that helped.

Hi Jon, If you live in Polk County, you will come to our office to obtain the gift certificate. We issue gift certificates for only regular number blackout plates. Our hours are 7am to 4:30pm Mon-Fri. The cost is $35.00. If you are wanting to purchase a gift certificate for personalized blackout plates, you will need to do this with DOT at https://iowadot.gov/mvd/personalizedplates/home.aspx. See the third item under ‘Before Starting’. Thank you.
Yes, you can. Bring in your remaining plate and registration. The cost is $5.
Good morning, Anna. Good question. Right now you can only do the annual "renewal" on-line. You will need to go to your county treasurer in order to transfer a vehicle title. Make sure you have all your paperwork i.e.: title, bill of sale, and any other paperwork, if you purchased from a dealer, that they may have given you. All persons to be an owner will need to complete and sign an Iowa Application for Title/Registration. If you live in Polk County, we are open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for title transfers.
Bring in your current plates, current registration, $35 for non-personalized Blackout Plate.
Hi, Kathy. The title issue date won’t have an effect on when the registration expires. In Iowa, the owner of a vehicle can select any month to be their registration month, regardless of when the title is issued. If you can provide the title number, license plate number, or VIN we could look into it for you. For sure a vehicle’s registration is valid for one month past the expiration date listed on the registration.
Yes, there are service fees with the electronic payment options and they are higher with a debit card or credit card because we are not able to absorb the banking and credit card fees associated with those payment options. However, if you choose to pay by electronic check, which is simply an electronic withdrawal from your bank account, the service fees are only $0.30.
Hi Melissa, If you can provide the license plate number or VIN we can research this for you. There are several MMeiners around the state. If this transfer was already completed and you need a replacement registration and sticker you can contact the office at 515-286-3030. There is a $3.00 fee for a replacement registration.

When does your sticker expire? You have 30 days after the month on the sticker ends before you can get a citation. Make an appointment ( or plan on a 2hr wait to walk in) and bring your bank statement showing that the fee has been paid and have them at the very least print you a receipt to carry in your car. Although, I'm being if you do go in, they'll just get it all handled for you.
It's 2 hours : time in side the building. What I did last week was I walked in before 3PM, get the ticket for the title transfer from the information desk and walked out. And then I came back again after an hour and 15 minutes later. Even those I had to wait for an hour to get in my turn. And I had to pay the parking ticket twice.
The DOT website can answer your question.
Yes and by appr
You can use your plates for another car. And yes you can walk in. However without an appointment it can be quite a wait.
Make sure you make an appointment or plan on being there all day with appointment your in and out. I would make sure you bring ss card birth certificate and a d.l.with you

Print form from website. It explains things pretty well. Will run you through calculation for the amount of the check.
Use the license plate number
After you pay off your mortgage, the mortgage company is responsible for releasing the mortgage lien on the property. The release should be mailed to the property owner after it is recorded in the Recorder’s Office. Contact your mortgage company concerning release of the mortgage lien if you believe they have not done so yet. After a spouse passes away, the surviving spouse may file what is commonly known as ‘Affidavit of Surviving Spouse’ with the county recorder’s office. I found an example of an Affidavit of Surviving Spouse that was recorded on June 24, 2020 that begins on book and page 17907-988. You can search for this document from the following website by entering the book number of 17907 and page number of 988. https://landrecords.polkcountyiowa.gov/LandRecords/protected/SrchBookPage.aspx
I think you need to call treasury using the Google call availability. You will be directed how, and where ur payment will be made
Is it a new vehicle or one that you get every year.? If it's for a new vehicle I'd call and get an estimate for how much it will be for your T,T&L and either Mail your title and a Check or Money Order to the Treasurer or there is a Dropbox you can drop your title and payment. If it is already a vehicle you had registered before you should be able to renew them online. If you don't have the letter with the pin they send then you and use your old registration and they will show a image of where and what you need to enter in. Hope this info helps.😊
We are currently work on mail/paperwork that came into our office on 11/30/20. Please check our website https://www.polkcountyiowa.gov/county-treasurer/about-us/ daily for this date to help you determine if we are working on the day that you brought us your paperwork. Thank you.

Lindy, Iowa law requires the registration to be kept current when it's parked or on the roads. You would need to check with the lot where you are keeping this to see if they patrol this or are exempt because of long term parking. If you want to put the plates in storage, they must be current. When putting a vehicle in to storage, you return the plates and registration to our office. You can mail them or use our drop box located outside the front of our building. Be sure to include a note that you want this put in to storage. Use our website: www.PolkCountyIowa.gov for address & phone #. Thank you.

Teresa, You may want to see if you can obtain a Demolisher’s Certificate from the Police Department. If you obtain the Demolishers, you will then bring that in to your county treasurer’s office for a junking certificate. You may possibly be able to dispose of your vehicle directly under the following law: Allows an owner of a motor vehicle to dispose of a vehicle to a licensed vehicle recycler for scrap or junk without surrendering a certificate of title or a junking certificate IF: a) the motor vehicle is twelve model years old or older AND b) the motor vehicle is sold to the vehicle recycler for less than one thousand dollars.

The South side of building has handicapped parking in the lot. The ramp is to the west of steps.
