It was a wonderful experience. We decided to go canoeing/kayaking around the island and it was really great the wind was out to get us but beautiful scenery nonetheless. The camp sites are open and maintained no power but you're trying to escape from that so I enjoy it.

Fun little island on the St. Johns river. Had a wonderful day there! The ferry over was short and sweet. When you get to the parking area, be aware that there is a dock with a pole and a flag. Simply put the flag up and wait, someone will come and get you in a pontoon boat/ferry. Once on the island, there are kayak and canoe rentals, bike rentals, a small store( really small) and lots of trails to explore as well as picnic areas. The trails are very easy to navigate and great for all ages. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the trail system and local wildlife. You can also fish from different areas on the island and there is camping available. Check it out for a short day trip, you won't be disappointed ☺️

We had a great experience as a family with young kids here. The entire park is beautiful and they have amazing bike trails as well as hiking trails for all levels. I would recommend booking a cabin online and staying for a couple of days to enjoy the nature, fishing and everything this beautiful state park has to offer.

Really nice experience, the ferry to the island is free and they accept donations, everyone we met was super chill and polite. Turns out they also have what they refer to as primitive cabins for reasonable prices to rent out. Would easily return again with friends and donations.

You can fish from the island on foot from several spot's.... Great place to go
I'm sure it is now that they opened the river up to boats.
Yes. Be sure to visit the deli, great food, great staff.
Cabins can be rented for an overnight stay. No restaurant but there are some snacks in the store. Yes, there are trails for walking. Bring bug repellent. It's a beautiful natural environment.
Yes
There are multiple trails on the island. All but one are bike accessible. You can bring your own over on the ferry or you can rent one from them for super cheap. If it's been rainy at all or if the river has been high, be aware that the trails can get pretty muddy in some spots.
You can reserve a campsite here, they have tent spots and some simple cabins (1 electrical outlet, ceiling fan and light in cabins). I believe the tent spots dont have electricity. Check out hontoon islands state park website for more info. They can be reserved online.
So if you go to the gift shop ask for some but i is a small bag of ice
Yes is working. Is from 8 to sunset and the ferry is limited a 3 people in each trip. Bring your own food and stuff the store is closed
The ferry is a pontoon boat with an electric motor doubtful it would fit on it.
I think it's a month max per year.
They have plenty. price range from 20-35
when anyone is at the dock till they stop the service
15 minutes from DeLand proper. Have to board a free ferry to get to the island. Best directions via Google Maps.
Both the ferry ride and access for day use of the park are free of charge. They always appreciate donations, though, if you can spare it. :)
Screened porch with table and chairs, 6 bunk-style beds, one electrical outlet inside and one on the screened porch, one ceiling fan inside and one on screened porch. No fridge - take a cooler, ice can be purchased at Island Store. Water faucet outside near fire ring and picnic table. Bathhouse buildings, one male and one female, centrally located in the camping area. Ferry boat onto and off of the island, first one at 9 am, last one at 7pm. Snacks and light meal fare available at Island Store, if need other foods, can bee purchased at either convenience stores or grocery stores nearby in Deland and transported back to the island. We stayed a week, was very peaceful and pleasant. Real easy, especially if you're accustomed to primitive-style or tent camping. Can also purchase firewood on the island for campfires, so take stuff to make coffee and s'mores. Enjoy!
Yes, that is one of the unique things about it, that the free ferry allowed easy access to the island and the experience is different for everyone based on when you come, how long you stay and what you do. You can hike or bike, fish or boat. You can easily fish in the day, leave and come back in the morning a go again.
Yes there is a horseshoe pit on the island it is located by the pavilion.
There is a page to make reservations. I assume you can stay as long as you'd like as long as you make arrangements ahead of time, but a lot of them are already reserved a long time in advance so the sooner you know your dates the better
No
There are pygmy rattlesnakes, tortoises, deciduous forest animals, others have said they saw black bear and probably alligators. I did not see them but it is right on the water in some spots so just keep your eyes peeled you never know. It is such a beautiful place.
They have vans also.
Campsights are not on the river. They are inland because if river floods it's bank the sights won't be effected. If you are in a boat you can tie up and sleep on board. There is a fee for over night says.
Yes they are allowed As long as they're on a maximum of 6' leash. They are allowed in the tent camp grounds however not in the cabins.
The ferry ride is free and the park has no entry fee. It runs 7 days a week, 365 days a year from 8:00 AM to one hour before sunset. Check with the park specifically to see what the current last ferry is.
They were closed do to the hurricane.
No age restriction. Island, boat or ride their ferry over. Cabins and tent camping
