GAS CHAMBER??? This shelter doesn't even deserve a 1 star.

After reading all the reviews I will pass on adopting any animal from this shelter. It’s very disturbing that a shelter is more concerned about profit than helping animals, but then this is Utah the home of making a quick buck and messing someone over.

A beautiful cat had followed me home and wouldn’t leave so I thought I’d stop by to see if they had room to see it today. when I left google said it was open, obviously I didn’t know they close for one hour during the day for cleaning. When I arrived it was barley 12:10 and the employees were all in the front at the desk doing nothing but chatting with eachother and looking at me. I was holding a cat that CLEARLY isn’t mine by the way I’m holding it and I thought maybe someone will come to the door and politely let me know the situation. Nope A brunette woman that was pale and larger was super rude the whole time after I went in and gave dirty looks and short answers. The petit dirty blonde woman was nice. Idk if they thought I was surrendering a cat or what but completely ignoring someone with an animal in the hot sun is cruel. I came in with this cat last minute on my birthday after work just to see if it can get some help. Rude staff, terrible service. It wouldn’t kill you to step from behind a desk, and check because now it’s been an hour down the drain.

They basically use extortion to keep your animals from you. We were on vacation and the people caring for our dogs accidentally let them out and animal control picked them up and took them to this shelter. We got home the caretaker said they were so sorry. I went to the shelter and They won't let us have our dogs back without paying almost $400 bucks. It's just extortion. Also our poor dogs are in a tiny kennel just sad with tails between their legs. Not well cared for. I saw a cleaner just spraying down my dogs tiny kennel to clean it while my dog is still in there. They people seem ok and I'm sure they are trying to help but it's just cruel to withhold someone's dog from them for money while also treating them badly.

Hi Kenny! I am so glad you love animals too! In order to help us here, you need someone 18 or over to come with you. Then you could walk or brush a dog, feed treats or hold a bunny. I hope that we see you soon!
Paris, so sorry you witnessed this and then didn't know who to call. So whatever town you are in would determine which police dept you would call. Any officer could investigate it, it wouldn't have to be an animal control officer. I hope too that the dog is ok. Thank you for wanting to help. Again, where ever the crime occurred is the law enforcement agency that would handle it.
Yes we have cats and dogs and sometimes small animals. You can look at available animals on our website under the Adopt headings. suvas.org
Awe I'm so sorry.im not sure I'm just a person that took two cats in too. I would hope so. Have you tried putting them on Facebook. Call them tomorrow they should answer your question
Hi Mackenzie! We love volunteers! The first thing you need to do is to come down and fill out a volunteer application. You can visit the animals too while you're here. If you will be helping in the Shelter you need to be 18 or over. We are working to get a more formalized program set up but in the meantime you could help by brushing dogs or cats making them more presentable for adoption. You could help us with some cleaning as that is what the majority of our days are spent doing. You could teach dogs to sit at the front of their kennel when someone walks through also making them more adoptable. We can always use help at the licensing and vaccination clinics too, but those are on hold until March. Join the Volunteers of SUVAS Facebook page too!
We do take in some small animals. What city do you live in? The best thing would be to call the SUVAS 801-851-4080.
Krista, I'm so sorry you are thinking of rehoming your pet, he sounds lovely!. You have several options: If he is neutered, you can try a site called Rehome. You make a profile for him and you can help pick the adopter. It is sponsored by Purina and some very reputable organizations. You could try a breed specific Rescue too. We can take him here if you live in our District for a $50 fee. We ask you to fill out a form telling us about him so that we can try to find the right fit for him. I hope this information helps you make an informed decision.
Emmita, there are several things you can do. First, come and look through the Shelter. Post on Utah Lost and Found pets page on Facebook. Check with your neighbors and post on KSL lost and found pets. You can also create a profile for your pet on Finding Rover which is a facial recognition service. If your pet is microchipped, notify the company that she is missing. I hope you find her soon.
Isabel, there are a lot of rescues. Community cats, look that up on the internet and it will give you all sorts of links to rescues in the area. SUVAS is wonderful and tries to save them All. Lots of rescues go in there and rescue adoptable cats get them fixed chipped vaccinated and then off to adoption events.
Hi Chloe! We love our volunteers! To volunteer at the Shelter, you need to be 18 or over as we have Utah County Inmates that help here too. There will be some changes coming soon where we will have a more structured volunteer program and younger people will be able to help the animals. In the meantime, there will be 3 vaccination clinics in our area in September and @ 16 you can help with those too. Check out our website suvas.org for the dates and times. Thank you for wanting to help the animals!
I strongly suggest that you post fliers with her picture on stop signs, bus stops and on veterinarian's office doors if possible. You can also check this facility's website to see if by any chance they have posted a photo of a dog that looks just like her. They usually do this as soon as they find dogs that are wandering on the streets with no particular place to go. It might also help if you call the directory assistance at 411 to see if they tell you about other shelters close to where you live so that you can go look for her there. I hope this helps. Pray to god for guidance and hope for the very best.
I suggest that you put a tiny amount of catnip on her food. But remember: if she smells it she will go crazy and if she eats it, it will serve as a sedative. Afterword, if you want you can try calling the shelter staff to come pick her up or if you want to keep her for yourself that is up to you. Pray to god for guidance and hope for the best..
You just need to go take a tour of the kennel area, look closely at all the dogs and when you find the one you are interested in adopting write down the animal identification number, take a picture of him if possible and take this information to an officer or to an animal care technician at the front counter. Pay the adoption fee which is about $122.00 like you pay here at LA animal services, fill out the paperwork and they should tell you when he will be ready to go home with you. Pray to god for guidance and hope for the very best.
They do not do vaccinations here, unless it's special vaccination event when they have a vet volunteer to do it for discounted rates. Then it's about $10 to $15. You have to watch for them to be advertised though.
Yes you can, they allow volunteers to walk dogs and play with cats :)
Yes, you can call us and get on a list. You can tell us a basic of what you are looking for, and we will get your information. The best thing to do however is to keep an eye on our dogs for adoption and to come in often. You can see our dogs for adoption at suvas.org
We no longer offer this service for our District.
Yes we do microchip pets here. Our current fee for this is $25. We are offering free microchips at the community licensing and vaccination events. If you purchase a license at the clinic, you can get a free microchip for the pet receiving the service. You can pre-register on our website at suvas.org.
Please contact the animal control for the city the animal was found in. This is usually the non-emergency phone number for the police dept for that city or area. It may not be safe to handle an animal that appears to be sick.
You need to look up your city animal control phone number. It is usually listed through the Police Dept for your city. You can also look on Utah Lost and Found Facebook page, KSL lost and found, your city community Facebook page to see if the owner has posted that they lost the dog. You should also post that the dog was found and information how the owner could find it.
We do not do any veterinary services for the public. We do hold many pet vaccination clinics throughout our District from the Spring into Fall. Our next clinic will be in Springville on August 7. You can check our website at suvas.org for more details and how to register.
Sara, your dog could have a health issue that is making him uncomfortable. Have you taken him to a vet to see? He also could be showing behavioral issues due to a change in environment. Have you consulted with a reputable dog trainer? You should explore these options before giving up on your pet. If a pet is surrendered to us (there is a fee), we will observe that animal and if we come to the conclusion that it would be dangerous to release that pet out into society, he would be euthanized for the public's safety.
If it is a wild bird, then you need to find a wildlife rescue to take it. If it is domesticated, for example, a parakeet, they can take it.
We do not board animals. There are organizations in our area that do. Some of the local vets do too.
The short answer is $75. We will only euthanize for an owner if the animal is very ill or old. If we don't think the animal isn't, we won't do it.
We do get rabbits now and then. You would have to call our front desk (801-851-4080) to see what is available when you are ready to adopt. The adoption fee is $20.
Tanner, we do not provide spay/neuter services or any vet services to the public. We have some great vets in the area! You call around and get some pricing and availability from them for what you need.
Start by posting on Utah Lost and Found Pets Facebook page as a found pet. Call our front desk (801-851-4080) with the details and they will take them down and see if they match anyone who is missing a cat like this. KSL has two lost and found sections that it is free to post in. If you can't find the owner in a day or two, then you can either call animal control for your city to bring the kitty here so the owner has a chance to find it, or you can call us and bring the kitty in. If you are thinking of adopting, that's great, but we still have to give the owner a chance to find their pet first.
We don't have in right now. When we do, the adoption price is $20 and then a $15 rabies vaccination fee is added so $35 if they are not current on rabies vaccination. Just check our adoptable animals now and then on our website at suvas.org
There is a great site called Rehome that is sponsored by Purina and many other very reputable businesses. You can go to that site and create a profile for your cat and then someone can adopt from you and your profile. Your other options are to ask friends, family, neighbors. We really are very full right now and are only taking emergency cases. Rehome is a terrific site, please check it out.
Animals are still being brought in. We lost our cat last week and made an appointment to look at their intake cats! Although when i called animal control about my cat they said they arent doing anything with cats currently. If you're missing a pet call and make an appointment with the shelter for sure!
Hi! Thank you for wanting to adopt! You can see any pets that are up for adoption on suvas.org under the adopt section. It has photos and a small description. We are limiting the patrons in the Shelter right now, so make sure you call before coming down. The animals for adoption can change daily as available dates are constantly coming up.
Hi! Its great that you want to help animals! We do have an age limit of 18 or over here at the Shelter for our volunteers. The reason is that is that we also have Inmates from the Utah County Jail that also help us here. If your Mom was with you, you could still take a dog for a walk (she would have to hold the leash) or you could brush a dog or cat that needed a good grooming. They love to have some attention and a few dog treats! You can teach a dog to sit at the front of his kennel. This helps when potential adopters are walking through looking at the dogs. We hope you make a trip in to see the animals!
Dear My Name, No Kill is a confusing phrase. It means that only 10% of their animals are euthanized. We try very hard to find homes for as many animals as possible. There are always dogs that are to dangerous to release, but these are few. We find homes for as many cats too as possible. They are vaccinated, spayed, neutered and put up for adoption. We have been offering these cats as free adoptions. Our feral (wild) cats don't have many options. We have started offering them as working barn cats after S/N, but not many takers. Our intake of all animals last year was 4182 animals. If you would like to help, we have volunteer opportunities or you could help gather and donate dog/cat food, cleaning supplies, paper towels or bleach. We
We have a large variety of animals available for adoption. Its always a good idea to come in and get to know some of them! We have dog treats and get acquainted rooms where you can meet and greet them! We also have our website where adoptable animals are described. suvas.org We'd love to see you!
Tristan, we're sorry but we have no public vet services here at the Shelter. All vets offer S/N services, but the fees are all different. Call around and do some price shopping and keep in mind that your dog will need to be up to date on her shots too.
Sorry we don't have that available to us. Once in a while we have one surrendered to us that has already been altered, but not very often.
We do have a foster program for kittens, but not for dogs. If you are interested you can fill out a foster application online at suvas.org under the foster tab.
The shelter can take them but if possible reach out to a rescue to help lessen the burden on the shelter. Local to spanish for there is utah valley animal rescue at www.uvar.us
We do many dogs needing homes that are up for adoption. I recommend that you come in and get to know some of them! They are always very happy to see visitors so can get a little loud. I hope we see you soon!
Kriss, we just adopted out 6 puppies in the last two weeks. We don't have anymore available right now. Please keep an eye on our adoptable animals and don't be shy about calling us for more up to date information. Thank you for wanting to adopt from the Shelter!
Skye, thank you for being concerned for the animals around you. As a Shelter, we house and care for animals that come to us as lost or unwanted animals. If you are worried about an animal you see, please contact your local police agency as they are the ones who can investigate and follow through. If they feel the animal is being abused in some way, they do have the option of bringing them here to be cared for.
Hi Kaitlyn, our employees do need to be 18 or over. (We have Inmates from the Utah County Jail that help us here too.) We do have volunteer opportunities for 16 and over with our Clinics that are put on throughout our District from Spring thru the Fall. Please join the Volunteers of SUVAS Facebook page to see what's going on. Thank you for wanting to help :)
If you are asking about volunteering, we have a Volunteers of SUVAS Facebook page. If you are asking about paying jobs, we don't have any openings right now. Thank you for wanting to help here!
As the adult, you will have to fill out a volunteer application. We do have Inmates that help us here from the Utah Co Jail so you need to be aware of this. You could walk dogs, brush animals and help with some cleaning.
Yes, they have regular vaccination clinics where you can have your dog vaccinated. Check their website or fb page for dates.
Yes, we hold 10-13 vaccination and licensing clinics throughout our District. They go from Spring through the Fall. The locations and dates for 2019 will be listed on our website as soon as they are finalized.
It depends on where you found the cat. We cover from Provo to Santaquin, but can't take stray (lost) cats from Santaquin.
We do have small animals at times. Usually if an owner brings them in and surrenders them to us. We have rabbits, turtles, parakeets and other small animals at times. Just give us a call to see if we have any available. Adoption prices on these animals are usually very low. 801-851-4080
$47 if they are spayed or neutered. We are trying to get more dogs to surgery every week, so you have more dogs to choose from. Sometimes the dog is available before surgery, but then the price would be much higher. Hope to see you soon!
Any "no kill" organizations can still euthanize up to 10% of their animals and legally be called "no kill". We feel that if we have to euthanize even one animal, we are not a "no kill'. We have not had to euthanize an adoptable dog for many years, but the number of feral (wild) cats we get in are our biggest issue to attain this status.
The very best thing to do is to come in and look for her. We need some more information for our lost pet list too. We also suggest you post on yard sale sites, Utah lost and found, and KSL lost and found. If you make a poster, we will be glad to post it too. Hope you find her soon.
We have all kinds of dogs available for adoption. The small breeds go more quickly. We get purebreds and mixed breeds. We get labs and lab crosses, pit bull mixes, lots of herding type dogs (border, heeler, aussie), hounds and many others. You can look on line for dogs under adopt on our home page, but the best thing to do is come and visit! They get very excited when visitors come!
Probably like a couple bucks. You could find them at IFA for a few dollars too.
Hailey, we don't have any today, but that may change tomorrow. Any kittens we get, we keep long enough to make sure they are adoption ready (Vaccination, spay/neuter, and healthy). Keep checking, it will be raining kittens soon!
Go in and look at the kittens they have up for adoption :)
I suggest that you go to this facility in person and as someone at the front counter or call them first to see if they would take him. I think they would because as a general rule, these institutions send their officers out to the streets to find strays and do their best to reunite them with their families. Pray to god for guidance and hope for the best.
This is a public question forum, you will need to contact them directly for questions like this.
Please go in person to both Utah County Animal Shelters. Hundreds of cats get brought into the shelters so it's best for you to go into both shelters a couple times a week as they only hold cats for 5 days before they're put up for adoption. Post your lost kitty picture with a description on Facebook UTCounty Lost and found pages.
If an animal comes in and we suspect it is hybrid, it would go to a Rescue when available. (An organization that knows how to deal with them.) We would not adopt one out. We do have many dogs available needing homes though.
Depending on if you live in the south Utah valley area, we charge $20 for kittens under 4 months old, and $75 for adults. If you live out of our jurisdiction, I would recommend taking them to NUVAS, or the shelter for your area.
South Utah Valley Animal Shelter is where you need to go.
