Had a very unpleasant experience at the verona street animal shelter not going to go into detail about but not very happy i think the supervisor that was thereon the 19th of July could have handled it better like maybe come out and talk to us i stl think loki should have been ours instead of his owners who waited till the last minute to check there and waited till the last minute to get their dog out of there not happy at all!!!!!!

My dog went missing for 2/5 days, we called to see if anyone had turned my dog in but they told us he wasn’t there. We called the next day again and find out our dog was there the whole time, they never reached out to us to let us know he was turned in. They also tried charging us for them not properly doing there job. Yes our dog was microchipped.

I adopted a dog there recently who is partially blind and may have cancer they didn’t tell me this until a day after I adopted her when I was in the car with her ready to drive off and withheld that fact that the surgery she was having the day I was adopting her was to remove a mass and if I want to know if it is cancerous or not I have to pay $76 on top of the $157 I paid to adopt. I was refunded the money after them seeing this comment but I’m leaving the comment up just so people know what they’re getting into when adopting at this shelter. I am also keeping the dog because she has severe separation anxiety and putting her through another adoption would only make things worse for her.

Warm friendly volunteers. They love their animals! They work hard before and after to make sure every adoption is a success! We've adopted 3 pets from there!
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
All dog adoptions are free in October. Visit www.cityofrochester.gov/AdoptADog frequently to see dogs in need of new homes.
They do on their website but I don't know how up to date it is.
Yes the animal shelter will take them and find good homes for them they did my chihuahua or take them to lollipop farm
You can bring it to the shelter on Verina Street. We open at 11am. If the kitten is too young to be in the shelter we will find a foster or rescue group who can take the kitten home and care for it till it's old enough to be adopted out to a good home.
Yes they have that service
You have to get to the animal shelter and call a phone number that they have and then they give you an appointment to take them because they need to make room for when you take the kittens, I hope they can get a good home, good luck friend.
I don't work at the animal shelter. But I think the best way to find out if there's any pictures is to check their website.
Actually, RAS has met the criteria for "no-kill" status for several years, however we do not use the label as it can be hurtful to animal care professionals and has been divisive for our industry.
I dont know if there is a fee but I would be willing to adopt her/him. I've been trying to adopt but the shelters are full of pitbulls. I love them but I can't have then at my apartment.
It's really simple. If the pet is ready to be adopted, then you can go right ahead, fill out the paperwork, pay the fees and take it home! If not (some have Stray Holds, Pending Vet Checks, or a Wait-list) then you put your name on a Wait-list and come back at the window you specify. My first dog from there was on a stray hold (5 days) and I was second on a Wait-list. Neither the owner, nor the person ahead of me showed, so I was able adopt her. My second dog from there needed an additional vet check after he was fixed. I was first in line on the wait list and made an appointment to adopt him a couple days later. My son's kitten was ready to go same day, so he adopted it and took it home, same day.
I don't have a computer. Is it possible to be
They look like cats, they fix all the animals plus they get their shots as well.
Call them and tell them.
no
I believe you can. I know they can always use help there
Any person over the age of 60 can adopt any animal over 8 years of age at no charge! License fee will apply for dogs. ♥️ There is also a Senior Discount on non-senior animals - Adoption fee for cats is $52 and dogs are $80.50! The animals are all spayed/neutered and microchipped and come with the first vet visit for free! ADOPT, DON'T SHOP! 🐾😍♥️
I believe it depends, because they sometimes do specials rates. I got mine for $15 and he has a micro chip.
Fairport animal hospital is great
585 428 7274 they have free adoption events coming up
A lot of places are in need of volunteers. For the most part, as long as you're at least 13 (high school) mose places will accept you as a volunteer (i.e. hospitals). Specifically this shelter, I don't know. But if I were you I would contact them directly and ask. Good luck!
The only thing that I believe is that they may offer spay and neuter clinics if you live within the City of Rochester, and they would determine price upon your income. Also they may offer at certain times, for City residents, a rabies vaccination clinic. A simple call to Verona Street Animal Services should be able to answer any questions. The people who work there are wonderful people and very helpful.
I'm sure they do!
Yes you can but might be better to drop at lollipop instead.
There are often free adoption events but in general fees are as follows: Puppies: $177 Dogs: $147 Senior Dog: $82 Kittens: $112 Cats: $97 Senior Cats: $52 Puppies and Kittens are under 6mos old. Seniors are over 7 years. Fees include the vet care, spay/neuter surgery, de-worming, vaccines, disease screening, licensing, microchip, ID tags, first dose of flea medication, a bag of food, and a free health exam voucher. We also include a voucher for any purchase at PetSaver Superstore! Birds, ferrets, etc have lower fees.
As Chris indicated, we can use or share with community members, if there are no choking hazards. Thanks, Chris. They may be used atop our Kuranda beds for non-chewers to keep them cozy. Thanks for thinking of us, Diane.
All adoptions are free until 9/22. Visit www.cityofrochester.gov/rochesteranimalservices to view animals awaiting new homes.
The time may vary from a couple of days to a couple of weeks depending on circumstances, visitations, and availability relative to holding periods, sterilization, and medical/behavior clearance.
Thank you for the question Cassandra! RAS is open 9-3 every day with the exception of Sundays But there are some services that require an appointment. I recommend you call us directly to speak with someone about what you'd like to do and they can give you guidance on the best day and time to stop in!
Yes they do its only 1$ with proof of income like ssi ,dss ,foodstamps ,social security you go to verona to pick voucher up after calling first for appt then they set you up at bay street for surgery
You have to live in the city of Rochester to get the $1 voucher for the spay/neuter program. As far as the free kitten adoption, you have to call them to see when they have open/free adoption days.
It's on Verona St off of Jay St, it's a one way.
You can surrender them here. What kind of dogs are they?
We assume the best in people, not the worst. We try to minimize animal time in our facility, which is inherently stressful, frightening, and unhealthy. Check out Open Adoptions, Adopters Welcome
Not exactly sure but I do know it's 1 Saturday or Sunday out of the month
I am not sure , you should call and ask. I'm sorry your dog is sick .
Based on what comes in. Sometimes yes and then none available
Visit www.cityofrochester.gov/BeforeSurrenderingPet.aspx for tips and guidance on self-rehoming.
You need to schedule an appointment
I'm not sure. But they do amazing things 🙂.
The pound is not a kill shelter. You should call rescues to take him is that is what the pound is doing.
Keller's Kat's rescue...look them up, they are no kill.
RAS is not a veterinary clinic. It helps in placing homeless animals. Tags need to be bought through the City Clerks Office. Price varies based on the status of the dog.
It goes based on your income they do come with full shots and are microchiped as well. I adopted my baby from there and it cost me $170 they do have free adoption days as well. Check website to see when free adoption days are lollipop farm dose the same as well.
Please visit www.cityofrochester.gov/adoptadog to search adoptable dogs.
Visit http://cityofrochester.gov/adoptadog or call 585-428-7274.
Call our main office at 585-428-7274 to learn about our pet owner support programs. Not all programs require being a recipient of other assistance.
I would call and ask.
I'd say as early as 8:30, if you want to get a pet. It's a very long wait if you arrive later. They limit how many people go in at one time. Good luck.
Yes you can. I would recommend a call for a heads up.
Call them and they can give you details
Your best bet is to go and check them out.
Yea they will
428-7274 call for info
You can also go to city hall and pay a $30 dollar fee
U would have 2 go 2 verona or lollipop farm
Yes
Rescue is your best bet. Although the fee seems high, it's nothing compared to the new cat, vet fees you would have otherwise. With RAS(Verona St), the fee includes... Initial vet check, shots, deworming, flea treatment, microchip, Spay/neuter and a Care PKG with coupons. The first visit with a vet of your choice is also included free. Other cat rescues have their own incentives to help you with your new furbaby experience. Remember, there are so many animals that need a second chance and will be a furever grateful to be rescued....no need to buy......ADOPT!
Not sure about costs. It varies as they give discounts to seniors. But yes, animals adopted out are not allowed to leave the building without being spayed or neutered. Some may have shots, but you also get a free vet visit and it may require an extra shot or 2.
So sorry to hear that. Yes you can drop her off.
Not sure about puppies but I know they do free giveaways at least one Saturday or Sunday out of the month
See above 😏😏😏
What kind of puppy?
They are so destructive or I would take it. Guinea pigs make better house pets. Take it to the pet store on monroe ave at goodman street. They will cage him or her and someone's gonna adopt it. Verona street is the pound operated by the police dept and they might put it to sleep permanently and they demand a lot of information. The pet store is your best option.
Try emailing Chris at Verona st through the city of Rochester website and he will guide you through the process!!
I'm quite sure they would give you a copy of the records because you need a copy for your records
Please call or go there. This is a place to ask your neighbors or community members questions, like 'does it smell funny there?' And I say that it used to but they really have improved on that issue.
you should probably bring this dog to a vet..
Sometimes check with them often. But I will say giving an older dog a home saves a lot of training and cost associated with a puppy.
Yes, they can be rude
U have to call to seeif vouchers are available still then go and pick them up asap when r. They only get so many and then once u get voucher u must follow directions on voucher to set up appt.
They have limited space for cats tryl. Lollipop farm as they will take them
Check their website or stop in!
What kind of dogs are they
I found it to be a place good in taking animals in by appt. They made my transition in given up my family dog of 13years very comfortable. I no that's Maxine may not got adopted, but I didn't wanted not to be able to care for her anymore. Due to my health is not good. It gave me great peace with the workers being so helpful.
A lot of pet stores will have scheduled vet days with low cost vaccination packages, or you could take them to Rochester Community Animal Clinic
We do not do vaccines, but you can go to To Rochester Community Animal Clinic on Bay St.
No rabies shot just tetanus
No, which is why the spay/neuter and adoption programs are so vital to this organization.
You need a vet
At times they do
http://www.cityofrochester.gov/RASvolunteer/
I would check lollipop as well
Surrendering a stray animal to Rochester Animal Services was the best choice to help it be reunited with it's family. Here's more information about the ways that Rochester Animal Services has evolved over the years to help the community. http://vsas.org/2016/01/rochester-animal-services-a-15-year-retrospective/
I'm not sure you might want to call the place you had it put in
Absolutely. You can call the shelter and make an appointment to bring your dog in. Bring any paperwork you have for her and be sure to tell them all about her personality - that will help her to be adopted. To be placed on the adoption floor to find a home she will first have behavioral testing. If she is aggressive with people or other dogs she may not be able to be placed for adoption. That's just something to be aware of.
Go to Verona St and if your on a fixed income they can help you I got mine done for a $1.00
It is best to go in and see. Puppies get adopted quickly.
He's abeen very sick on amd off since he was little. He gets well for a few months and tjrn he's sick ahain. I know he's suffering. He never plays and is now barely eating. He has neen to numerous vets. I just think he's not a well cat
Call the DEC.
I just had one done and I paid 66.00 but I'm low income if you have proof of low income it's cheaper
Hi Agnes they do not offer spay/neuter services to the public, but if you call them they will give you referrals to some local vets that do. I know they often refer people to the Bay Street Animal Hospital
Take your pet to the vet
Bay Street Animal Clinic provides low income vet services, and they take walk ins. Check them out online
Carolyn, I recommend you call the shelter and ask. Asking questions on Google Maps is to the community on google maps only. There is NO GUARUNTEE that a shelter employee will see this. Just a heads up. :)
Depends. But about 100 is the going rate.
They do from time to time have fee free adoption events. Usually on a Saturday right as they open, they only let so many ppl in at a time, theres usually always a line &its 1st come, 1st adopted. Although this is a great thing &rescue is the only way to go, 1st time pet owners especially with a few children you deserve it to all involved to not rush into anything like that like the previous guide stated it would be best to have the time to learn about the pet &what will work in your household, lifestyle &your schedule as well as what is best for the pet you choose to adopt. Another note on the adoption fee it also includes micro chipping &they do sometimes have a "pet of the week" &their adoption fee has been lowered. Again its alot to think about, I know your intentions were good in wanting to get your children a pet for Christmas but maybe the better gift would be to tell them about it &then make the decision &go as a family while the kids are on Christmas break.
If you call its got their info on the vm as well.
The Irondequoit Animal Hospital has wildlife personnel, call them.
Call Pet Pride. It's a cats only rescue
Lollipop is a high kill shelter. I hope you consider this
Take the kitten in, in a box or something else safe and secure, so she doesn't run away. Explain to them that you found her and that you want her to be ok but you can't take her in (if that is the case). Good luck and thanks for doing the right thing. They will find her a home. ♡
Yes they do.
Not sure you will have to call them.
How much is a kitty? Is there a special price for low income seniors
