They do from time to time have fee free adoption events. Usually on a Saturday right as they open, they only let so many ppl in at a time, theres usually always a line &its 1st come, 1st adopted. Although this is a great thing &rescue is the only way to go, 1st time pet owners especially with a few children you deserve it to all involved to not rush into anything like that like the previous guide stated it would be best to have the time to learn about the pet &what will work in your household, lifestyle &your schedule as well as what is best for the pet you choose to adopt. Another note on the adoption fee it also includes micro chipping &they do sometimes have a "pet of the week" &their adoption fee has been lowered. Again its alot to think about, I know your intentions were good in wanting to get your children a pet for Christmas but maybe the better gift would be to tell them about it &then make the decision &go as a family while the kids are on Christmas break.
There is always an adoption fee. The animals are all vetted before adoption. UTD and spayed/nuetered for a happy healthy life. Be sure to educatr yourself on whichever breed your considering to know if the fit is good for the animal and for yourself. You want a forever stable situation for the new pet and you. So the fit is important. Good luck in your search.
