Never a place you want to bring your pet, especially in the late evening and early morning. I will say however, despite having to bring her and we had a wonderful experience. Both the veterinarian and the assistant, as well as the front staff were very kind! They listen to my concerns and really took consideration in caring for our baby. We collaborated together creating a plan of care that made sense for our budget and fur baby. I can’t say enough good things about the staff here truly exceptional.

Two weeks ago, I brought my precious kitty, Billie, who quickly became ill to OSU. From the minute I checked Billie in to the minute I left, the staff treated me with kindness and explained everything thoroughly. They provided loving care for Billie, made sure I had updates and answered any questions I had. When it came down to delivering the news that no pet owner wants to hear, the vet tech treated me with compassion and patience. I’ve heard horror stories lately from emergency vet visits and it caused me to reflect on how thankful I am that I took Billie to OSU, as I know in her final days she was treated well and I can be at peace with her waiting for me on the rainbow bridge.

I had a cat with congestive heart failure that unfortuntely had taken it’s toll on my little guy and “the time” has come to say goodbye. This entire staff was so nice and sympathetic and respectful of our time. They explained the process and the nest steps and even gave me a hug when I left.

The ophthalmology department was great with my dog during a quick case of secondary glaucoma caused by a tumor. They were fairly priced with consultations and surgery and easy to communicate with. They were very thorough with all follow up and post op recommendations and I always felt that my dog was safe in their care. I can't recommend them enough!

They are actually much less expensive than private vets. We paid $3,000 for our dog's surgery. The same surgery elsewhere was $6,000 to $10,000. The cost is to cover the use of the equipment and meds for the animal. $3,000 is still a lot of money but if you don't want to euthanize your pet, you find a way to pay it They do offer some financing.
They do dental cleanings for dogs. Costs depend on the animal but I'd recommend getting an appointment in advance because they book up quickly.
2 years or older, 6 months is outdated information. You can safely have a vasectomy or ovary sparing spay performed at any age, if you're concerned about unwanted pregnancy. Neuter does not curb aggressive behavior and can in some cases make it worse (fear aggression). Newer research has proven that retaining hormones for 2 years or older is critical for proper bone and joint development. Earlier hormone loss increases the risk of certain high death rate, aggressive cancers such as osteosarcoma (bone cancer). Mammary and testicular cancer (the ones neuter/spay nullify risk of) are much easier to screen for by hand by you or your vet, easier and cheaper to treat surgically, slower progressing, and overall less painful for all involved. None of these cancers are particularly common, but with odds being about the same, the choice is clear: retain hormones as long as possible.
You definitely should call the veterinary staff directly to ask this before doing anything. If all else fails just skip a dose to be on the safe side. No reason to risk her health more so when already sick.
Hello, thank you for the question. Please give us a call at (614) 292-3551.
You will need to call the vet clinic to discuss your pet's specific case. Broadly speaking, yes, OSU does perform orthopedic surgeries for dogs. They are highly skilled and very caring.
Took my dog in yesterday I already had previous blood work done, up front they asked for 300.00 down additional 200 for more test. Then advised my dog has cancer prior to test results coming back and wanted to euthanize him because I didnt have additional 2000.00. No vet there just students at the time. I will never take a animal to this vet again.
Please give us a call at (614) 292-3551 to schedule an in-person consultation so we can provide you and your pet the most accurate cost estimate.
They offer client financing for qualified pet owners through an independent company, Care Credit.
Your best bet is to give them a call. The staff there is wonderful.
If your script was written by OSU Vet Hospital, they should be able to fill it there. I would try there first, before anywhere else
Yes we do. Please call 614.292.3551 and follow the prompts to Behavior. Thank you!
You may need to clarify who "some of the girls" are...staff? To where?
Hello, thanks for the question. We would need to see your dog in person for a consultation. We're not offering remote consultations or telemedicine at this time. If you have additional questions, please call us at (614) 292-3551.
What is the question?
Last time I had a consult is was 600-800. If you call they are great with estimates
Thank you for your inquiry. I will follow up with our equine team to get you the most accurate answer.
You do. I will say it is by far the best. Very compassionate staff.
Yes they have neurosurgery/neurology. Our 3 Doxie's have had 6 surgeries for IVDD and all have had good outcomes with minimal deficits.
I'd definitely call and speak with someone at the clinic. They have a separate hospital facility for large animals and livestock veterinary care.
Hi Diane, thanks for the question. We are not able to treat birds or exotic animals. Thank you for understanding.
When I called for cost estimates before, OSU phone staff told me to go to Rascal Hosp for cheaper costs. I did find Rascal cheaper. They have an oncology vet, Dr. Gonzales. Very thorough, very caring.
It's not really a matter of accepting pet insurance. My experience is you pay for everything up front and then submit separately to your pet insurance. They will ask you for your pet insurance name at the appointment but most likely that's just for easier document exchange between the hospital and the insurance company.
Currently pets have minimal contact with other pets and people. They are good with working out those situations.
Yes, they do ultrasounds.
They have an emergency department that takes walk-ins.
I would call them and ask to speak to a physician for advice, I doubt you're going to get a good answer over google reviews.
Hopefully this helps: https://vet.osu.edu/vmc/about-us/appointments-and-payment/fees-and-payment
I would suggest contacting the hospital directly and discussing available treatment options with them. They will be able to provide you with all the details you need. Good luck!
OSU that Mary hospital does offer a payment plan. However they do ask for some money up front. I'm on a fixed income with social security and my 10 year old Had surgery done there and in the end was right at 10.000 and 2 months later her sister had to have surgery that was 3100 dollars. Thay will work with you.
For pain I give my girls gabapentin, but you need to ask you vet. If you do,you need to give it daily to work. My girl's are 10 and 8 and both have hip displacement and the 10 yr old had cancer surgery last year at ous vet hospital. They are awesome
The answers you receive to any questions (like yours) are from everyday people who went to this pet hospital for their own personal pet problems (myself included). We can only answer to our own specific experience. Your question would be best and most accurately answered by the Vet hospital staff themselves. Please contact the hospital directly!
They are the best I highly recommend.
Yes
Call them for that question.
I recommend calling.
It's 300 up front. 200 is the emergency room exam and then the remaining 100 goes towards the treatment
Call OSU immediately.
Tracheal collapse is repaired using a stint. This is a very risky procedure and sometimes causes worse problems than the collapse itself. They do perform this procedure there however.
Not sure on price, but OSU staff are some of the most caring and competent people I've ever dealt with. If you go there, it's money well spent!
I would just call (sooner rather than later). Its OSU so everything veterinary or medical is learning environments and I'm certain they would be more than happy to utilize it as an opportunity for the student's.
I would call vet who administered parvo shot. Nothing to fool around with.
I Would call the vet clinic and speak with the staff. They are extremely helpful.
They remove canine anal glands in event of anal sac adenocarcinoma (cancer). My service dog had this surgery there and remained fecal continent. However, if you're wanting this as an elective surgery, I would hope that's not an option. It's a very serious surgery with very real risks, not to be undertaken when not necessary due to disease.
I would call and talk with them.
A doe? A deer? A female deer?
Probably. It would be best to call them. They are great and will answer your questions.
Call them they have emergency vets on tonight. And every night.
Yes they will help you and they are open 24/7. Call them and take your dog to get checked out
How is this place cheaper than a private vet? $300 up front?????
Osu is the best place to go for any pet needs
Go.osu.edu/vetfinancing
Do not I was just there with a foster dog and asked if they did and they do not
Yes, they can set up a payment plan but you have to be approved
I know they have an orthopedic specialist for dogs. My sister had to have surgery and do physical therapy with her dog. And my dog had to go through like a fitness test before they would remove her leg with cancer. So I am definite that they will be able to help you. They are great so don't hesitate to take your dog there. I would do it again, but hope I won't have to. I should have went there to begin with and could have saved a lot of money.
They require a $300 deposit upfront for exam and evaluation.
Yes but youre always with a real vet and a student who is either shadowing or doing the exams under supervision of the vet. Expect your visits to take at least an hour here because the vet has to check everything the student does. It's a cool process but too time consuming for my schedule so we go to health and harmony on first. They're wonderful
The ladies that work the front desk on Saturday night are Amazing!!!
Call them
I would take the duck in. They are pretty amazing there.
Not me but I'm sure they do
Actually depends on the facility. Please contact t them!!
My dog was layed to rest. You should call them.
You can call the front desk of the food animal hospital or the equine hospital. They should be able to help you out. They will not be able to give you medical advise over the phone. Since it sounds like a complicated case, it may take quite a few hours to figure out the exact plan of action. Everyone at the hospital is super nice and understanding.
From my experiences as far as companion animals go they only serve cats and dogs (no exotics or small animals). They do regular check ups, shots, spay and neuter, surgery (can't list any specific ones other than we're looking to get a cyst taken off our dog), optimology, and I'm sure much more. It's a full service animal hospital, the only difference being that a student will be accompanying the actual vet and will usually be doing the work under the very close supervision of the doctor.
