They are actually much less expensive than private vets. We paid $3,000 for our dog's surgery. The same surgery elsewhere was $6,000 to $10,000. The cost is to cover the use of the equipment and meds for the animal. $3,000 is still a lot of money but if you don't want to euthanize your pet, you find a way to pay it They do offer some financing.
Ear polyp removal for my cat was quoted at 1200 by local vet, 2000 by OSU. BUT EAR POLYPS CAN GROW BACK. My local vet said this was much less likely with the OSU surgeon due to expertise and better equipment. My cat ultrasounds for heart disease are half the cost at OSU compared to another university. Sometimes you should consider results. Which is more expensive, a failed surgery that means doing it again, or a more expensive one that works? OSU is also the best animal ER in Columbus, imo.
