Such a beautiful place for a peaceful, relaxing Mother's Day! We love exploring our state parks and this was our first time to this one. They have plenty of picnic tables and adirondack chairs by the lake, as well as several picnic shelters throughout the park. One of the picnic shelters was near where we settled by the lake for the afternoon, close to a nice, large grassy area for playing and playground equipment for younger children. We didn't hike any of the trails on this visit but they have several ranging from 0.4 mile up to over 5 miles long. My daughter and I enjoyed some canoeing - got pretty close to an egret, just missed a turtle, and thankfully did not encounter any gators. Although, we were told by the ranger that they are more scared of us than we are of them.

Serene, peaceful place. Camping, kayak rental, kids playground areas, mini museum at welcome center, nice Adirondack chairs along the water. Nice walking areas.

My husband and I stayed this past weekend and we had a blast! We were tent camping and the campsites are nice and shaded. They have water at each site the bathrooms were nice and were cleaned everyday. The trails were beautiful and there’s plenty of firewood to gather. The only thing I didn’t really like is that the campsites are pretty close together. All in all 10/10 could recommend.

Private wooded spaces with full RV hookups. A ton of trails to take. Each RV space has a picnic table and fire ring. We absolutely loved this place!

What are mountain bike trails like, how many miles of trails?

rl Avery | Apr 3, 2020
BC Blues | Apr 4, 2020

There is about 15 miles of single track trails. If you ride all the main trails both ways it makes a nice ride. I like riding Scout first. Then Cowasee which leads into Whippoorwill. Don't forget to take the Swamp Fox loop off of Whipporwill. Finish Whippoorwill. Then take Splice to the Laurel road crossing which leads to Knot. There is High and Low Knot. Low is better. I usually take Low Knot back to the parking lot, then backtrack taking High Knot and reversing the rest of the trails. The trails are almost all single track and are generally well maintained. There are good signs and a good map you can take with you that you can pick up at the visitor center. The trails are well packed sand and can be ridden even in the rain. They stay pretty hard packed unless there is a prolonged dry spell. Even then they only get loose in a few places.
