Hiked our buns off! 2 and a half hours with two 7 year olds, a 4 year old, a 3 year old, a 1 year old, and an 8 month old! We brought the “off- road” strollers and rolled the dice that the trail would be stroller friendly. We were really happy we brought the strollers because the trails were perfect for them. I pulled instead of pushing in a couple places but everyone enjoyed the day immensely!!

Mature trees throughout campsites.... so mostly shady. Beach provides soft sand & awesome sunset scene! Bathrooms & showers are clean. Great trails for hiking and some bicycling.

We had originally wanted to go to grand haven state park but it was impossible to get in so we ended up here. We were not disappointed one bit. It wasn't super busy and there was a really nice beach.

Very nice place! Enjoyed the stay! Only don’t give 5 stars as alcohol isn’t allowed - I would have had a better time without this restriction I believe

Hike and cross country ski yes, snowboard...I doubt you're supposed to, and I don't think it wouldn't be particularly safe
You can also take your dogs to the beach now. It is a pilot program and they haven't yet taken done the no dogs allowed signs.
Yeah paved paths around the bathrooms and changing area to the beach a few hundred yards tops
Hoffmaster State Park was named after P.J. Hoffmaster, sometimes considered the founder of the Michigan state parks system, who served as the Superintendent of State Parks and Director of the Department of Conservation.
As long as their licensed and leashed. My dog loves it there, lots of interesting smells
There are no 'lakeside' lots. The campground is about a quarter mile walk from the beach. Most sites are level and good sized with large trees.
Nope but there are cabins at State Park in North Muskegon and a Yurt at Muskegon Sports complex.
I believe you can camp, however bathrooms and water and power may be unavailable after Oct. 15. Not 100% sure
There is no state park in Michigan that I know of that will allow firewood from anywhere other than a source local to the park. Too much chance of contamination with invasive pests.
You can go to beach without a campsite however you need to have a state park sticker or pay for the day.
Absolutely, Muskegon has Hoffmaster listed as a wedding venue.
It is a State Park. If you have a recreation pass with your motor vehicle registration you are all set. If not there is a little booth you can pay at near the entrance. Not sure if any of that changes during the off season
Table at each site, electricity, large sites for a tow behind camper, my 14 person tent, 2 larger suvs and a bon fire and still more room. Across from me as I type this is a 4 door dually RAM with a 5th wheel camper and that camper is as large a school bus. He’s obviously using a lot reserved for that but even he still has room around his mobile house!
You would have to contact the park to be sure, but I do not believe there are any biking trails. Hiking and cross country skiing is the limit, so far as I'm aware. Trails and forest have only a thin layer of soil over sand dunes, which would be easily torn up by heavier use. https://www.michigan.org/property/pj-hoffmaster-state-park
This is a beautiful area. We come often from GR. There are no cabins for rent but if you have a tent or camper this is an excellent choice for you.
You might be able to go with a cellular (e.g. "4G") connection, but that would depend on how far in you go, and who your carrier is. My cell connection works out to the beach, if that helps.
Not on the beach itself, but up near the tree line there is definitely shade.
Check-out: 1 pm
Yes. Downtown Muskegon and Grand Haven do.
Yes, but you're better off purchasing along with your vehicle registration. It's less expensive.
Yes, its a great sunset view.
During the day should be fine. If you rent a camp site you can "camp" out of your car at night.
No...no bikes on trails at hoffmaster or north ottawa dunes. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.
The park is named after P.J. Hoffmaster, sometimes considered the founder of the Michigan state parks system, who served as the Superintendent of State Parks and Director of the Department of Conservation. The nature center, named for Emma Genevieve Gillette, who scouted locations for new state parks under Hoffmaster, offers many exhibits on sand dune ecology. Bird watchers come to view migrating songbirds (wood thrushes and orioles plus warblers and sparrows of various species) and migrating raptors (sharp-shinned and broad-winged hawks and even the occasional eagle or falcon).[2] The park made international headlines on July 8, 2009 when a man fell asleep in his truck and backed over his family tent, injuring his wife and two young children.[3]
For week camping new rates are now $222.00

Yes, we went with friends and they had the park sticker on their car. $11 per year.
