Would love to give this place 5 stars but 3 is stretching it. To start the overall RV park is decent. The bath house and laundry are really nice and very clean. You have to be very cautious of falling trees, not limbs but big chunks of trees. If it damages anything good luck. No reimbursement there. There are multiple dead trees and the MWR absolutely knows about this. The trees are marked off, but they still rent out the campsite below them. The electrical grid is so outdated that the breakers on the main power box keep overheating and tripping. Then you have to wait for the breaker to cool off to finally reset them. Not on the individual campsite pole, but on the main campground electrical box. This has gone on for weeks. Again the MWR knows about this. Has done very little to solve the problem and continues to rent out campsites knowing this is a problem and not for warning campers about the issue. Then once all the campsites are full the breaker goes again multiple times throughout the day. We have stayed at this campground before. It's very clear the MWR has not maintained the RV park. It has amazing potential but it's definitely going downhill and is becoming a hazard to campers. Make sure you have a really good surge protector for your camper and a generator to run your power.

The stay was good. The staff was friendly and helpful. The campground needs some love and updating. The grass needed to be mowed. The person in the area next to me had his own mower, weedeater and chainsaw. The rules say you are not allowed to stay fulltime but yet there seems to be a lot of people homesteading here. Having the lake and Otter Creek nearby was a bonus. Some good fishing and hiking areas. There is little to no phone service and no cable. Perhaps the Army can get one of the Reserve engineer units to do some upgrades for their annual training time.

This is a small but nice RV park. Most sites are grass and gravel of various sizes. There are a few concrete sites.

FOR MILITARY/ RETIRED ONLY! When arriving, Watch your GPS, SLOW DOWN ON THE HILL BEFORE THE ENTRANCE!! We sailed right past in our RV, no prior signage, Or turn off lane,, to warn us about the turn. NOT Safe! Otherwise, The camp is somewhat quiet, clean, staff is just wonderful! If you are staying for one night get a pull through next to the bathhouse/ laundry. The noise I don't like happens when cars on the road run over the noise strip on side of lanes.

Yes anybody can fish at the lake at any time as long as you have a state fishing license.
No. bowfishing is prohibited on fort knox managed lakes
Thanks for your question Elijah. We don't have an answer about the size of our catfish, but we wanted to thank you for your years of patronage at Camp Carlson!
Hi Mr. Johnson. Thanks for your question. The rates for the RV campground are daily. In the past we did offer a monthly discount but it resulted in many problems with homesteading. Homesteading is strictly prohibited on all Army recreational campgrounds and parks, per Army Regulation 215-1, Chapter 8-25d (2). The daily rates allow us to become a travel campground and allow travelers to be able to make reservations for short term stays. We try to keep our rates competitive of other campgrounds and we do not raise rates due to holidays. RVer’s are allowed to stay up to 90 days but then they must pull out for 72 hours before start another 90 day stay.
We currently do not offer monthly rates for RV spots. You may contact Camp Carlson directly at 502-624-4836 for the cost of daily rates.

Nope. You just keep to the left when you go in to the entrance and drive down to the lake. There are some deep ruts to straddle on the way down there though so be careful.
You need to have a DOD ID card to rent pavilions that are maintained by the Fort Knox MWR. The playgrounds are currently closed.
Type Camp Carlson, KY in search line. Go to their website and make reservation. I did not have any trouble.
No, the lake is used by tons of people and stocked by the state. A KY fishing licence is required, if you fish in the creek you must also have a trout stamp.
Idk but the last fishin license i had did not include fort knox on it
Not if you are active duty and on leave. Unless they changed the rules.
Camp Carlson has a dump station that is free to campers. There is a $2.00 dump fee for all others.
Very sketchy in and out. Bought a residential rooftop antenna and attached it to the ladder worked goog.
Carl, it is my understanding that only active duty, retired, National Guard or reservist, their families, and active DoD employees, are permitted to use MWR sites.
No you don't have to be military
Just look on web site call number given closed Monday and Tuesday
