A seamless adoption process and very friendly staff. I looked on their website, saw a dog I was interested in and drove down immediately. I placed a deposit and had to wait a few days for the stray hold to expire. Ghost (formerly Teddy) fit in right away. My other little dog liked him, and he is a cuddle bug to everyone he meets (even though he barks very excitedly at them first which can startle people understandably). I was running behind on pickup day, it was almost time to close but the staff was so patient and didn't seem in a rush at all. This is how the adoption process should be; no pages and pages of tedious applications or exorbitant fees. Ghost is the sweetest and I feel lucky to have found him 🖤🐩

I walked in and walked out - seeing cats and dogs in cages upsets me no end. I lost 3 totally house cats within 4 months - they were all 15 or older - by totally house cats I mean they were never let out - I love cats 🐈 and want a new kitten 😸

Staff are so caring! Very clean and animals seem to be cared for very well.

I am glad I got my cat out of there. Some of the staff were unapproachable and didn’t seem to want to take the time to speak to me about him. Once we got him home he began limping and the shelter had said they resolved his issue with two days of pain medication. I took him to the vet today and he has a serious genetic malformation and requires part of his hip being taken out in surgery. The shelter swore they never noticed anything wrong with his hip further than limping and said he was monitored and checked but how do you miss an entire genetic malformation and still clear an animal for the adoption floor? I have spoken with them and all they have told me is that I can bring him back. I will absolutely not bring him back there and encourage you to bring strays elsewhere. This entire situation was completely avoidable if my cat was given the proper care he clearly needed.

You have to be a resident of wake county. You must have an id with you when bringng in an animal.
Have you tried to rehome her yourself? They are pretty full at the shelter, so they are always cautious to tell people that that should be the first option
The small dogs get adopted really fast. If you want to catch one you have to be there as much as you can while they're open intake, or go to the SPCA or foster based rescue in the area for specific types of dogs. These agencies are twenty to thirty bucks more but they source from local shelters so you're still saving a life. Second chance has all of their fostered out animals on their website, as do all of the similar shelters in Wake county. Otherwise go to the shelter a lot until you find the small dog you want.
I recommend second chance adoptions for cats. They have a flat $65 adoption fee, unlike the shelter all the cats are already microchipped and spayed/neutered and they specialize in cats. They also source from local shelters ONLY so you know that youre still rescuing and freeing up space to save a life in a no-kill shelter. Make sure to fill out an online adoption application prior to your visit so you can take your new furry friend home quickly.
Call or email the animal shelter directly. This is not the right place to get the information. You should go to the main website
I have a beautiful, well-mannered, sweet pit we adopted from this shelter. I need to rehome her because she hates my other dog. She's an absolute love to people. I don't want to return her to the shelter because she's 10 and I'm scared for her. Would you please consider adopting her?
You fill out an application asking a variety of questions then you speak to a volunteer and they will go over the application with you and try to match you with your forever baby.. It takes about 1-2 hours.
Are you trying to surrender strays to the shelter?
Wow! It’s an animal, not a pair of pants.maybe you both need some training.
Check out the hours they open on the website and then just drop off at front desk. Thanks for donating!
Yes they do. I think they only give the 1 year.
Yes, either call the shelter or go to their website to find the available kittens and/or cats for adoption.
I carried hand sanitizer also.
I would definitely try to enlist the help of a trainer. If you find that you must surrender the dog, please be forthcoming about all this information because we want the public to be safe. We don't want someone to go into the kennel and get bitten because the dog is afraid. This is a dog who would probably need to go to rescue for work on behaviors, so honesty and transparency are critical to ensuring that he will find a rescue to take him
I would take him to Wake County Animal Shelter. They take care of strays and lost pets
Thank you so much for wanting to help the Wake County Animal Center. Making a donation would be a much more effective gesture. Food is already provided by science diet, but they need many other things like litter, toys for enrichment, etc. And just so that you know, this facility has much lower euthanasia rates than other places. They have a very strong foster program when motherless kittens are brought in, and they do an incredible job at adoptions. They also partner with a program to help some of the feral cats become barn cats for those willing to adopt them in that way. So yes, a monetary donation would be very much appreciated.
Are you asking if the Center takes animal surrenders? If that is your question, yes they do. It is an open intake center. You just have to provide proof of ownership as well as a driver's license in order to be able to surrender. Plus you must also be a resident of Wake County
Yes, animals found in Wake County can be surrendered to the Wake County Animal Center.
Okay. What is required to bring an animal today
The fee to reclaim is based on the number of days that your pet was there at the center. (And it also depends on whether your pet was previously spayed or neutered)
Please be on the lookout for rabies clinics in Wake county. They are generally advertised on their page and website when they are about to happen. At the clinics, the vaccinations will only cost $5.
The number is comes up when you google them and im usually able to leave a voicemail and they respond quickly. Also check the website and view the last pages of the adoption gallery to see if they put a picture up of him/her. Also send an email to their email address thats on the website. They'll get back to you asap. They are good with that
Yes..
Yes!
There is an adoption fee of $95. That covers the cost of a spay or neuter, a microchip, and all of the dogs shots being up to date. And of course, you get the dog too :-)
I don't know I don't work there
Yes, but you will need an appointment
You can bring it but they have there own crate that they use. Since I brought a kitten and she was small they just took her out of the crate I had in handled her personally
Likely, but they can't be adopted until they're 12 weeks old, to my understanding.
What kind of dog is it? If it is a pitbull or a pitbull mix you are eligible to apply for a $25 pit stop voucher through friends of Wake County Animal Center. If your dog meets these qualifications, please visit www.friendsofwakeanimals.org
Please use the Animal Center website and contact information to enquire about animals available for adoption. Google will not have the answer.
I'm in need of someone to keep my dog for a few weeks...cant pay alot
looking for a small female chihuahua, long or short 2-4 years old.
Credit or debit may be used.
Yes there are fees associated with reclaiming your pets. I am not sure of the specifics. You should be able to find the charges on their website.
You could see if someone there could take a picture of the bird and text it or email it to you. Good luck!!
I'm no lawyer, but probaly so. I'd call a lawyer and ask them if I were you just to know for sure.
They offer discounted cat adoptions to seniors and holiday specials but not free.
Yes. We recently dropped off an open bag of dry cat food. Just let them know at the front.
I am going to miss my kitty and will be crying when I bring him, but I hope he gets a family that is going to treat him good and love him as much as I do
You can look on their website and see what they have available. The smaller breeds usually go fast.
I posted my cat lost on PawBoost and 20 min later I was contacted about her whereabouts. Try postung it there. It's an app you can download.
Wild animals are unadoptable and euthanized by animal control. A great alternative is to leave your crawl space open until the possum leaves and then close the door so it cannot re-enter.
No , just pay the fee and be 18+
Call the animal shelter for additional information
I think you should call the the animal shelter. They can provide that information and more
Ok thanks, I just thought as large as the county is, there would be another.
I'm sure they will accept donated food. Before you make a trip there, as stated above, I would call just to make sure.
Either call the office or check the website. Either one could tell you.
I don't think so. They don't board animals. I would say to call them and confirm
I don't know. You could just call the shelter and ask them.
No dog is allowed to roam freely. Wake County has a leash law. And you will get fined $100 if your dog is reported off leash. It happened to me with my Doberman.
Yes. Several receptionists speak Spanish. (Si, se habla espanol)
Check the website repeatedly. They update the animals i believe every hour while they are open. You can also go to the shelter and search the rooms to see if he is there.
Ask the staff how to properly introduce your animals to each other
Yes but they are closed and I work Mon thrue sat. 4 a.m till 5pm. Thank you for your answers, I am willing to pay someone to help me get my baby back, I'm from GA. And. She is my baby, like if you have a child its no different. I can send a pic, and if someone has the time to help me I would appreciate it so much, she is by truck buddy, and sleeps with me
I know they take cat and dog supplies not sure about rodents u can try
Here is his question for those of you who do not know what he is saying. Using resources like Google Translate will help you guys translate languages that are not English. : D Here is your question for those of you who don't know what he is saying. I don't believe the staff can help you over the phone. If you don't see your dog on the lost and found page you'll need to go in and see if you spot him there. I hope you find him.
You need to call them directly.
Treatment requires limited activity and restriction. Because there is not 24-hour staff at the shelter, that is not something that is in the best interest of the dog, as it is not the safe just practice. It requires a series of injections over a one month.. Plus they need pretreatment with three months of Heartgard and antibiotics. However, there is a group of us volunteers that created a charity called friends of Wake County Animal Center. We raise funds in order to help defray the cost for the new adopters. We often put $250 sponsorships on dogs that have been at the shelter for a little longer to help them get adopted
They said "The Wake County Animal Center no longer offers court-ordered or lawyer-suggested Community Service." So basically no, sorry!
Unaltered dogs $95 Neutered/spayed $45 On hold could be stray waiting for people to claim , needing assessment or physical exam. If you want to be the 1st in line to adopt if/when available call them, better yet go there and talk directly w/ adoption staff. Best of luck!
Translation: I can not find my child, his name is spotty, he gives it to animal control and I do not have any information, I just want to know if it's okay, someone is burning information, please, I miss him. PLEAS
You will have to take the pet to the facility for surrender. They will need some of your info. "Get Your Pet" is a good online home to home adoption service. There are also several other adoption services to help. Check out pit bull rescues.
Just as a note, animals at the shelter are not "sold", they are adopted with an adoption fee. Selling an animal is a whole other thing.
Dogs are $95 to adopt. This covers vet services, food. If the dog comes into the shelter already spay/neutered then $45. Please, check out all the adoptable on their website! Lots of info as well!
This is the County (government run) Animal Shelter where open intake is required. This means they cannot turn animals away like specific rescues can. Space is limited and depending on the space vs intake ratio, sometimes it is the only option they have. However, compared to other County Shelters, Wake's euthanasia rate is lower because of their foster program and the many rescues they work with.
Yes, 16 & up with parent. 18 & older independent. There is on the WCAC web site an application to fill out plus there are orientation class/classes.
I recognize that you are disappointed, but the County employees are also allowed to enjoy holidays with their families, just like everybody else. And there are some employees who are there caring for the animals, but they are not open to the public for either adoption or Surrender or reclaiming at this time
They don't read questions here. Best bet is to check the website.
They update their website daily so keep checking every day.
There are always too many cats and kittens. Come by or view online!
Yes Wake County Animal shelter will call u if its your pet that you surrendered. But a pet that are strays that come in. They only Euthenize them if they are sick with a disease that is not curable. But Wake County tries VERY hard NOT to Euthenize.
Wake County Animal Shelter does Spay and neuter clinics and it's super cheap.I just don't know when the next is. Also try SPCA, they are cheaper then a vet. But if Wake County Animal shelter has a clinic coming up if u can hold off its WAY worth it!!
$95 covers the entire cost of a spay or neuter, up-to-date vaccinations, and microchipping of the dog. If the dog came into the shelter already fixed, then the dog is only $45
You'll need to contact WC Adoption Center asap.
Call! Or go by. They've got a great system but people coming regularly to adopt. Make sure yours isn't there or it will find a new home quick.
Open all doors and windows
Do you take old towels and sheets for donation purposes? They are in good shape.
