Treatment requires limited activity and restriction. Because there is not 24-hour staff at the shelter, that is not something that is in the best interest of the dog, as it is not the safe just practice. It requires a series of injections over a one month.. Plus they need pretreatment with three months of Heartgard and antibiotics. However, there is a group of us volunteers that created a charity called friends of Wake County Animal Center. We raise funds in order to help defray the cost for the new adopters. We often put $250 sponsorships on dogs that have been at the shelter for a little longer to help them get adopted
I don't know the answer to that. You would have to ask the staff at the shelter. It is very expensive, several hundred dollars. It is possible to sponsor an animal and pay for the treatments, food and care .
