The best thing to do is call RDU operations and the actual airline you will be traveling because Christmas is definitely our busiest time of the year so you need to know what's what walking into the airport that way you will be well enlightened , you don't want to get there and be in the dark and unclear about rules and regulations and you end up missing your flight . Also come a few hours early , the airport is crazy this time of the year . The most travelled time is 5-6 a.m so hope you aren't traveling around that time , it's like a zoo and worse than best buy or walmart in black Friday . Goid luck .

Hello, you do have to wear a mask. Thia airport is super friendly, clean and easy to navigate. We found Delta is very responsible with how they are booking flights. They are most defeninity putting publics safety first. Booked every other seat unless traveling with someone. Hand wipes offered as you board. Also provided snacks in ziplock bags.

I brought daughter to airport last Thursday at 10am--it was almost a ghost town--few people at ticket counter, TSA, etc. Even parking in garage was not a problem as it was nearly empty

It depends on which station. There are 3 train stations close by Raleigh, Cary, and Durham. Cary is probably the closest and all trains run through all 3. You would need to catch a taxi or uber to get to RDU

To my knowledge it doesn't "close". Shops do close and open, but it's undergone and continues to grow fairly rapidly. Its not LAX by any means but it's a large airport. If your waiting on a connecting or delayed flight they won't kick you out. If you want to arrive early for an early morning flight, I'd say arrive and be parked 1 hour before boarding given that it's Christmas. But personally I arrive about half and hour before boarding time.

If they are flying Southwest airlines they will be at terminal 1 and for any other airline they will be at terminal 2 farther around the loop or you can park in the parking garage. As far as when that depends on what time there flight arrives.

The FAA assigns codes and often they try to make it recognizable to the city, but often it's really not for example Sacramento CA has the code SMF which if you didn't know it would not immediately tell you the city. Chicago o' Hare is ORD. There are reasons however because the F in SMF is for Field and ORD is short for Orchard, which is the property they built Chicago airport on. The property was previously Orchard Place where originally they built aircrafts.
