This place is part of a Dying Breed of establishments. The quaint camping store Cafe combination with its selection of snacks, camping gear, souvenirs and rustic charm. The proprietor Adam is interesting and charming and has lots to say about his life there and the local mountains and things to do in that area. The menu is a bit Limited and the interior selection of dry goods small but pretty extensive considering you're in the middle of the mountains. It's open 6 days a week only closed on Tuesday.

Drove up the mountain and met Adam and saw the cabins and enjoyed a hamburger and a cup of chili. Both Delicious 😋. My hunny and I camped for 2 nights and enjoyed the scenery and getaway from the city. Had a lovely time, hopefully we'll be back soon to enjoy Crystal Lake Cafe again and stay in one of the cabins. 🐻🌲🐿️🏕️🔥📵🌌🌠

I had a nice chat with the owner of the Crystal lake lodge...his name is Adam! He has Lived in this spot for 28 years! Knows everything about Hwy 39 and had old newspaper clippings from late '59 that shows the start of the project and further developments until opening in '64.

Beautiful day roads were free of any falling rocks or sand totally clear ! The ride to Crystal Lake was great! Its well worth the trip . Had one of the best cheese burgers very good stuff! Its a great way to spend an afternoon exploring..

It really just depends what you prefer. (And I agree on checking the weather forecast before you go up. )
The lake is a naturally acuring lake. Not a reservoir. It only gets water from run off. The snow/rain, no water.
Its 2 people at a time or one family at a time. My husband had to remind other customers to be respectful of the covid rules. After that everyone stood in line and waited to go in.

I was there today. No chains needed. Most of the snow is already gone but it is still beautiful up there right now.

No fish really, but great chili dogs and cold drinks in summer, hot chocolate in winter.
May 11th absolutely no snow on ground.
The snow from last week is almost gone. It melted very fast. This last storm only brought rain up there.
