I cannot recommend this park enough especially if you're military , you'll be given free access. It has trails, buffalo, Ram's, and out of the world overlooks of the badlands. It's safe, and people are to them selves just enjoying the nature. 10/10 recommend

I love the North Dakota badlands. It's so beautiful here, inspiring and wild! There were a lot of animals; I saw a huge herd of bison, pronghorns, deer, prairie dogs and wild horses! I climbed, hiked and even did some Plein air painting! Tip: The animals are easier to find in the morning.

This place was beautiful! There are many places to stop your car and get out and hike around! The day we went part of the road was completely closed due to construction. Right off the road, you can stop and see prairie dogs, bison, and wild horses! Definitely a nation park must do bucket list park!!

Very underrated National Park, great expansive views with curious badlands topography. Easy to spend a quick day or extended weekend backpacking trip. There's definitely some hidden gems here for those taking the time to look. Worth spending at least a weekend here if you can.

I have lived 10 miles from the south unit of the park for 15 years. The horses are in bands all over the park. If you drive slowly through the park in the morning and late afternoon you should see horses. You can follow my fb page at #wildkind_photos on fb. I post pictures of the horses and other animals I see every time I go.
Lots of good hiking with well marked trails and maps near the entrances.
Yes pets are allowed. They must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet while out walking. The information is listed on the website. www.nps.gov/thro Click on info Scroll down under picture you will see pets highlighted in blue, click on this and it will provide info you need.
Elkhorn camp is a nice site but for an RV I'd suggest wannagan it has less foliage at the sites
Yes
Not sure of your question, however, it is one of the first national parks. There are several national psrks, wilderness areas and national forests.
Yes, it is possible to bike on the roads, but not on any of the trails. The park was one of the least crowded I've been to and the roads are wide enough for cars to pass. Check out the park website for tips about biking
Check wih the rangers. This is one of the most beautiful parksto take a ride!
It's pretty big and depends on which parts you want to see. We usually take 2 days but ee really take our time
Late may early June
I would repeat what sharing said. The drive thru the park us beautiful. If you like great vista's and being outdoors this is a great place to visit.
The loop is closed due to the road being washed out halfway through the south park. No campgrounds open in north or south sections. You can boondock in the Little Missouri Grasslands. I saw that on Campendium last week. We were just the August 8,9,10 2020
I was just there last week and saw quite a few.
Yes you can. There is also at least one campground set up for horses.
Not hard, first thing in the morning or just before dark.
There are no longer bears there. Removed as nuisance years ago.
North Park Campground Dickinson ND.
$30 for a car. If driver (or anyone in the car) is 65 or older you can purchase a lifetime, senior pass which is good at all National Parks and Monuments. Cost is 80 dollars. One pass covers everyone in the same car. It's non transferable and they check photo ID when presented.
I seen Buffalo , but no camp ground, unless it somewhere else close by
It's in medora and outside of Watford
There is a discount for disabled. It is $10 for a lifetime pass. There are four parts to this park. Painted canyon is the rest area. The other three require a pass
There are no restaurants inside the park, but there are restaurants very near the southern entrance to the park.
Fishing is permitted, BUT North Dakota requires a license. AND only certain fish species may be kept. Channel catfish, goldeyes and sauger.
They are in theory open 24/7 - visitors center has few hours
There are three places in the state: http://www.skicentral.com/northdakota.html
going to need a little bit more information there are two or three different outdoor structures in both the North and the South unit.
Most parks do offer brochures and dvds of the park. I would advise going to the site itself and contacting the Rangers office via email or phone call. Possibly check FAQs
A few hrs
No theme park attractions. All you do is drive around and look at the beautiful nature that God gave us and look for any bison, wild horses or other animals. Your also able to stop to do some hiking.
We went to South Dakota last yr. Saw mt rushmore, badlanda, custer state pk etc. Want to focus on N. Dakota my husband will not drive more than 2-3 hrs. at a time.
There are two units - North and South. The South is generally busier but has better chance of seeing lots of wildlife (bison, horses, prairie dogs, deer and kinds of birds). Plus, the South Unit has easy access from I94. The North has amazing views but not as much wildlife sightings. Both are awesome!
Medora campground is great you are right next to the south entrance
Theodore Roosevelt National Park is the only one im familiar with
You can but better if you walk if you want to experience the bad lands.
I believe the discount would be if you use the senior national parks pass
I was there last August and the weather was great! Loved that park. A prairie dogs heaven.
FYI the only cabins in north unit is for staff only. I guess they could hook you up if you know a friend working there. All sites are primitive with some pull throughs. Flushing toilets and water in campgrounds. Only person that has some hookups are the host.
It depends. Google local weather. Excellent paved roads though.
The speed limit is 25 mph on most of the loop rd! You can expect to stop many times. Please allow enough time to see the park. It is about 30 miles and will take about 2 and a half hours if you don't get out to walk one of the many trails.
