π£ They're okay for the most part, but there's always room for improvement. This past year has been amazingly stressful yet satisfying as well. Thank you Ms Martha, Ms Tammy, All the Doctors and Support Staff, and Volunteers at Oakland Animal Services. They need better/friendlier staff at the reception area though to help people when they come in. The above mentioned Staff has helped me get 11 Stray/Feral cats Spayed and Neutered. A total of 16 in all for free. ππ₯° It was awhile coming and very stressful at first though, I won't lie, if you read my previous post. But they came through for me in the end. They even found forever homes for 6 kittens that were born on or near my front porch, after I fostered them for 8 weeks. They provided me a loaner Trap to catch the Ferals I feed, that are weary of people, so that they may be fixed and bought back to our neighborhood to prevent procreation, making more homeless cats. Sure wish I hadn't returned the trap so soon tho, got two more cats that need to be spayed/nuetered, and one had 4 new kittens. Now Animal Services is back to not returning phone calls, here I go again!π«ππππ€ͺβπΎ

I went in to adopt a dog with my family and the first woman I spoke to was so off putting. She basically refused to let us even look at a dog, I had to insist. She was rushing us and said "well that dog isn't a puppy so why do you want to see a young dog, we are busy. The two volunteers who brought the dog out were very nice (the two stars are for them). They also recommended one of the dogs the first lady said wasn't a good match. We own a house and have dog experience (former foster mom).

I got Madeline here as a puppy almost 7 years ago. She was the calendar cover pup for the 2014 publication and is the most wonderful pup I've owned. I had to wait about 4 weeks so she could big enough to spay before she went home with us. She's been a wonderful addition to our household and is still a "pup" I will have for a long time! Thank you Oakland Animal Shelter. I'm so glad we found you when we did and you had a wonderful addition for our family!!! Laurie Smith

Please call, or come to the shelter during open hours to make a report with Animal Control.
I'd like an answer to that as well. I contributed $100.00 for those dogs to be helped and would like to know IF anyone ever found these poor excuses for human beings....
You should probably talk to your neighbor. But welcome to Oakland. Where dogs bark
They never do. Even between 11-1pm when they say the lines are open.
Reduced but not for freeβ¦
Report it to animal control they will coming to pick it up and give him in adoption if his friendly in ur phone go to animal control in the city u are at and it will give u the phone number and locationalso you can report your neighbor to the police that they did this let their dog out in the street and will be in trouble they will keep ur information private so ur neighbor wont know what happen who call the police it will be confidential
If they were found in Oakland you may bring them to our shelter at 1101 29th Ave during open hours.
Yes, if you can't keep him OAS will take him.
They don't have enough employees so forget it! Absolutely no diversity, and there's alot of people there that don't know what they're doing, but think they do. I call so many times but never get a response. They do nothing for poor neighborhoods. There are so many Stray and Feral cats in my neighborhood that I personally feed, because these are hungry animals. Mating season is around the corner, and I can't get anyone at the facility to anwser a phone and help me get them fixed. How do you charge people trying to help, a rental fee for feral cages to catch cats, which are not theirs, to prevent them from making a even bigger problem. No one to call for help. How can we, the public, get something so we can check if a animal is microchipped, so we can return pets to their rightful owners. We would do a better job than Animal Services! When and if they pick up dead animals, they don't check to see if microchipped. Witnessed with my own eyes!
What do you think roosters do? Anyway it is illegal in Oakland to have a rooster.....
π£ Yes You Can! If it's a good pet, or not, they'll work with it, they'll adopt him out, or maybe someone will adopt it. That's what they're there for!π
You used to be able to. There is a small number of cages located there to leave the animal in with instructions posted! Please follow the instructions, or don't leave the animal.
Good luck! You would do better getting the address and taking them in yourself, than trying to get them to come pick up stray cats. In Oakland California it's not going to happen. If it's not a Rabid Cat, or something that escaped from the zoo, they're not coming!
Oas tries it's best not to have to go there. Cats appear to go rather quickly, and there are so many shelters that pull cats from them that time spent there is not a threat for them. Dogs are a bit trickier. There are far more dogs in the shelter, and it is to the point of overcrowding. This does put the dogs in danger territory. When it comes to this point volunteers post in places like Facebook and nextdoor, urging people to share as widely as possible in hopes of finding someone to give the dog a chance. All of the ones I've seen have ended happily with the dog being adopted. If I recall correctly they also try to outsource the dogs to other shelters/rescues, but they're still rather limited.
Your daughter is amazing for wanting to volunteer! Unfortunately we can only accept volunteers 18 and up.
We accept Owner-surrenders from Oakland residents for a small fee. If you live in Oakland you may bring him to the shelter and request euthanasia. He will be evaluated by our veterinarian for possible treatment or euthanasia as appropriate.
It is not illegal, but please, fix any cats you feed. For information on free spay/neuter, please see our website: http://www.oaklandanimalservices.org/how-to-help/donate/friends-of-oakland-animal-services/petfix/
If you have found a stray, sick or injured animal, you may bring the animal to the shelter during our hours of operation. If you have found an animal after hours and can transport it to the VCA Bay Area Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Hospital at 14790 Washington Ave, San Leandro, CA, please do so. Alternatively, call the police non-emergency line at 510-777-3333.
Yed
Only if you have more evidence to prosecute or re open
It's a good place to start. But they have so many dogs that need a home.
Yes
Yes you can. OAS takes in all stray dogs.
There are TNR programs, I've contacted many. The problem is getting them to return your calls, or emails. Apparently from what I hear there is a shortage of staff due to Covid, and a lack of Veterinarians wanting to help with their services in preventing the birth of these many poor unfortunate creatures. Can you believe that if you have a Feral cat cage and the animal is bought in in it, it's $95. Without it it $145, I was told. One cat at a time. Who has feral cat cages on hand. I remember when I got my strays fixed some years ago, it was only $25!
It shouldn't be not sure
Not true... There is a fee, but I can't remember how much... I think it was $135 to cover vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip and adoption fee.
Can't help with that one sorry
You can take it to Oakland animal services
Your going to have to go down there to find out for sure they never answer the phone
I believe it's$115 plus dog license fee, but check with OAS, they open at 3 pm
You can fix them for free.
It's not against the law to have four dogs are they disturbing you at night?
ISteal her cat?I am hoping animal Services will cite her or something. I was hoping to get an answer from Animal Services. I do not want her cat, I have dogs. I just want my unit not to be destroyed by a starving, desperate trapped animal.
You can drop by during our open hours to drop off items in our donation bin in the lobby. Our hours are M/Tu/Th/F 3-6pm, and Sat/Sun 1-5pm. Closed on Wednesdays.
Oh yes check all the dog shelters near you.. Someone can help you find him. Try and save him if you can. πΆ
You can just walk in ....the paperwork is all about your information Where do you live , have you owned pets before ...all dogs are micro chipped It takes about 45 minutes for documentation / license
Where are these puppies? If you can access them, rescue them and bring to a local shelter.
Break into that apartment and get those dogs. Or call the management company, the police or Animal.control. if you can get them to a shelter thats the best
How sick and twister.
Have you found this dog?
Dont answer if you dont want to be bothered or block them if you wont need them in your future
If the your number is still current on the chip you will be contacted. It's still good to check though. Iirc they hold the animals for at least one full week before putting them up for adoption. It's also possible your cat is still hanging out in the area so try to get the message it to your community as well.
Call animal services they will pick it up
The spca
If you cant afford to take it to the vet to treat it, please at least take it to the shelter asap to have it humanely euthanized, so it doesnt suffer any longer. Alternatively, there are other groups in the bay that may take the kitten/cat in, but please act fast for the sake of the cat. A good place to at least get resources is fix our ferals, Google them. Best of luck!
What do you mean by locate? If you mean can they check their computer system to see if the dog had been brought in then yes. But the owner would likely have gotten a call as soon as the dog was brought in to the shelter. If you mean locate as in can they track the whereabouts of a chipped dog by gps or something, then, no. That is not how ID microchips work.
I don't know how long they keep the animals before adoption. We adopted our dog and he had been there only a week. They were great to work with.
TNR offers the best long-term solution: https://youtu.be/wF_omFE7Etc
I really don't know about picking up animals. I adopted a dog and they were great.
Yes and those people don't care about thier customers animals chained up outside.makes me furious and it creates aggression in the poor dog
I'm not an expert, but I do have some experience with this. The best way to limit it is to trap the feral cats, take them to a local veterinarian or even some shelters, and have them spayed/neutered. I can't give you any firsthand advice on trapping cats, but contacting a shelter is often a good way to go. Some shelters (especially in richer areas, where shelters tend to be less overburdened) will come and pick up the cats. Otherwise, if you can trap them yourself, many vets with spay and neuter them for free.
Contact Fix Our Ferals in Richmond. Google them to get the number.
As long as he feeds the dog and knows when he is high and gives him air he's alright
Cat Town....
I believe so, but the acceptance will depend on whether they have space and resources. If not, they can give some guidance on what to do - I'd call them first. The kitten might have to be transferred or go to a foster home.
