Great place to learn about the history of the ship and the crew that lives there. Lots of things to see and do. Lots of area to explore and see the recreation of the life out in sea. They also offer free listing devices to hear the stories shared by the soldiers. Nice shops to purchase patches, toys and logo items. Overall had a blast and enjoyed ourselves. I highly recommend you give them a try when you’re in the neighborhood.

There are three incredible aspects to this visit, all different and all great in their own way. First is the walk inside the guts of this ship. From the cavernous hangar deck as soon as you enter to the many rooms and walkways down below. The engine room, the brig, captains quarters, mess hall, barber shop, mail room, laundry room, the connecting hallways, and so much more - - incredible experience to walk through this massive ship. Second amazing experience would be walking the flight deck. You can best feel how massive this ship is while you walk around and imagine what it was like as state-of-the-art aircraft landed and took off at sea from exactly where you're walking. Thirdly, a walk through the tower, I should say a climb up the tower. This is the only guided tour portion of the experience. Looking out the same window the captain looked out of and sitting in the same chair was an amazing experience. I spent 3 hours touring the whole ship. I'd say that's about average. I saw every aspect of it. Depending on your pace I would say you will spend a minimum 2 hours and maybe up to four or five. Every minute is worth it and every dollar spent is well spent.

If you like US history and military history, this is a great place to go. When you're on the ship and take in the pure power that an aircraft carrier has, it makes you appreciate the sacrifice and hard work our military service men and women endure more than ever. We did the flight simulator, which is a very cool experience. We caught our bogey and shot him down! Lots of fun.

We loved the experience! Hubby loves airplanes and we were so thrilled to go in and stroll around the museum. It was soo tiring because a lot of walking but it was so worth it! we really go in every single part of the ship😂 Love to be i. the deck.. took a lot of pictures and post in social media. love it so much.. well be back !

I was there 4.5 hours. You can get a hand stamp, take a break for lunch, and return later the same day.
The main hanger deck and the flight deck are both accessible by elevators. There are a series of ramps up to the entry elevator that transports one to the hanger deck. There are a limited number of loaner wheelchairs available just inside the entry door. (Note that the entry door and several other areas on the ship have lower ceilings with exposed pipework, so watch your head.) The hanger deck is a large open area with several airplanes, gift shop, snack bar and Midway theatre all accessible. There is an area called the forecastle forward of the theatre that contains bunk rooms, pilot ready rooms and the newly renovated Combat Information Center. These are decidedly not accessible as they are accessed by steep, narrow stairs and weave through areas that have frequent hatches with step overs of 10" or more. The main flight deck is accessed by another elevator and is completely accessible except for the 'island' tower. Note: Midway is BIG. Expect a LOT of walking or wheeling.
If you'll get there spend time with volunteers some of them served on that Carrier. We talked with Cheef Cook, amazing things he told us
Exactly great experience
We are open 363 days only closed on Thanksgiving day and Christmas day. We're looking forward to your visit.
Unfortunately, due to the attempt to keep the authenticity of a real 1948 aircraft carrier, there are some things that have to be somewhat uncomfortable, but true fans and enthusiasts are willing to take the risk. If you are not willing to take the risk of uncomfortably, stay near the top decks and follow the guides for the least difficult paths and even sometimes the coolest experiences.
The price is the same, but as the others have said, the wait to get in drastically changes. I would not show up after 2pm if I did not have tickets already. It is up to 20 minutes to get tickets and then to get scanned in adds to it, and most attractions above deck close at 4pm.
I do remember the sick bay, but I don't remember the lab space.
Kids under 6 and active duty military (reservists, law enforcement, and firefighters) with valid ID get in free.
1001 feet long with multiple decks that will take 3 to 5 hours to see it all. Longer obviously if you plan on taking multiple pictures or videos which I highly suggest while aboard.
Midway had 8 boilers for. Main propulsion!!!
Hi David - No we are not a Federal National Park site. We are a historic naval aircraft carrier museum in San Diego along the Embarcadero. The USS Midway Museum is a non profit organization. Thank you, Amanda
To expand upon what others have already said the unit was modified for tourism but above and beyond that the ship's technology is heavily outdated and outclassed by current date models. There simply comes a point when maintenance and upgrade costs outweigh the building of something new.
27 in the place, but if you will be several days in the city, and you plan to go to Seaworld and the zoo, you can buy the citypass, with the first two this one is a gift along with the other one of old boats.
Yes you can purchase tickets at our ticket booth. There is typically only a line when we first open at 10:00am. Also, the only authorized discounts are through the military ticket offices on the local bases.
Yes. The Cafe is next to the gift shop on the other end of where you enter
I don't know, lived here half my life. And since the midways been here I haven't been on it. Wish I could go but fate has me in other areas of my life I guess. But other places near P.B. and up to torrey pines is really nice. Good coffee and a muffin near rosecrans dunkin donuts family owned. Big muffins and great hot coffee. "In the hole city" have fun.
It's been almost a year it was about for the 3 of us about 50 bucks
I was in a division on the Coral Sea from 84 to 88
From my knowledge yes it seems to be open
There are elevators to get to the main areas. But, much of the things to see require walking. If you dig airplanes, go anyway. The flight deck is like an air show.
Lower decks should be accessible but some area's require climbing ladder and or steep steps.
Contact them via midway.org website. Thanks for your service. I was on the Forrestal and am a Midway member. They do a great job there!
They have free audio self guided tour which is more to my style. They also have "Yellow Hats" who are ex military and give talks about how things work on ship and how they were during the wars. Very cool stuff.
Sorry cannot find any record of the USS MIDWAY ever ported at Haifa Port. Does not mean it has not, just cannot find any official record. But is now a Museum in San Diego CA.
Yes. Enjoy your visit. My family and I loved it.
They are. Booth right by the onboarding ramp.
Midway spends $$$$$$$ on upkeep and you'll notice.
I don't think ... since what they charge from the entrance is for donations ...
Is there anyway you can get pictures of your sailor
Yes of course . If not, I'll take you in myself. Tks for lated husband's service!
Limited parking on site for $10-20. On street but have to feed meter every 2 hours. Other options would be ace parking lots. Not sure of prices on holiday.🇺🇸 not sure but meters were free on holiday, not sure now
No. Only if your active or retired with ID do you get a diacount. $10 off individual membership or $20 off family
There's a luggage storage place at the nearest train station, but I forget the name. Its about 10 mins walk to the east. 20usd per item per day.
Yes, but you can get stamped to come back in
It depends on the age or if you have a military discount etc.
Yes but they do have a check point and check all bags and purse's. But is an impressive museum of our military history.
You can park by the meters next to the location it’s 3 hours for $7. Restaurant right next to it has very good sea food.
Mostly- some spaces are inaccessible but the majority can be reached with a wheelchair.
The Vietnam War (1965) and the First Persian Gulf War (1990).
Yes you can
Yes
Trafic lights change colors real quick these days...so I'd say it's pretty good 👍
They aren't enforcing timed reservations at the moment (at least that was my experience). Was visiting from Minnesota on 6/10. I called a week ahead and asked to schedule a tour. I was told scheduling a tour wasn't necessary. Got in without an issue upon arrival. No discussion of a reservation occurred.
Yes. U can buy tickets there. I believe it's around $24-26(adult) $16-18(children) I believe 6 and under are free and of course military and senior discount. I paid $88 for 4(2 and 2)
The hangar deck and flight deck are open. Everything else is closed. I think it is still worth it! The audio tour is good and there are plenty of planes and helicopters to see!
We are temporarily closed to the public to adhere to the COVID-19 restrictions.
Will not happen. Even if it happens, the water at shore is not that deep. So causality will not be there.
As for the crowd it is possible to get in the simulators even with a crowd it should take around 10 minutes for each group to go. Now the best day would be a friday and for the time it should be somewhat early like 11 am or 10 as not many people show up and staff is in every room ready to answer any questions.
Sunglasses could be a good idea for the flight deck, if it's sunny. A jacket would be good especially during winter, it can get windy up there.
It is nor free for dependents, however, you can go to the MWR to purchase the discounted tickets. Discounted tickets unavailable onsite unless a Senior.
I dont know about getting on the ship early, before they open. They do have guided tours as well as personal audio tours. No reservations needed.
there are several around passing the museum in Sea Vilage is by parkimeter, some parking lots before arriving cost up to 8 / hr
$ 23 per adult $ 22 online https://www.midway.org/visit/buy-tickets/
The island tour part is the only place where you have to use stairs and it is very tight spaces
Service animals are ok anywhere...if just a family pet you might want to call them for an answer
Hello! I seem to recall that there was a car park by the USS Midway. Enjoy!
20$ parking a few blocks away is good until midnight cheaper 10$ nearby but it fills up really fast
Alex, the address is 750 N harbor Dr.
Yes. An Adult ticket was about $23. See their website for more details. https://www.midway.org/visit/buy-tickets/
You will have to pay. I served in the Navy as well, actually here at 32nd St. and also visited the Midway Museum with a buddy who also served on her in Japan for 4 years, we all payed getting into her. It's no longer a ship in the fleet, she is now a floating museum, as such your entrance fee helps pay the cost of maintaining her.
And
I'm not sure about costs for children but it's about $ 20 for adults
I stopped by for a while on a group tour, but the grandeur of Midwayham was the front.
You can check on the USS midway (CV 41) crew list. It says there are 1959 crew members registered for the us midway. Check the list. If your not on the registered list then you can go on the site and register yourself on there to be added sir..
Take your ticket from the USS MIDWAY to the ticket booth. They should be able to see the deal and let them know what happened.
My husband had no problems, just avoided the narrow corridors.
Not sure about that..
Yes, you have to purchase a ticket at the Midway. The ticket sales is near the entrance of the ship.
General Admission: Adult tickets are $23.00, Senior tickets are $20.00, Children 12 and under are $10.00, Students (13-17 or with college ID's) are $17.00, and Retired Military is $10.00. If you purchase the tickets online I believe you save $1 and can print out the tickets
Upon review of their website it says they have one. I was there a few days ago but can't remember if it was still there
I can confirm that veterans have discounts.
Hi Karen, You can get tons of info, including hours and parking at https://www.midway.org/. Have fun!😁
Organizations (kids w/shaperones) have learning sleep overs all the time. Members, I think above the most basic level, get invitations to events - including an occasional sleep over. Contact membership via Midway.org website.
You'll have to call and ask. They weren't making New Years announcements when we were there.
Per the website, it looks like 10am-5pm. They warn of possible limited hours for new year eve and day, not for tomorrow....so 10am to 5pm is a good bet. Per midway.org, it is funded by a non-profit and will not be affected by the shut down. https://www.midway.org/give-join/support-us/overview/

The Original Straight Deck U.S. Navy MIDWAY.
the website says it's closed on Christmas and has some (I think) pretty cool events on the homepage 😀 google translator ✌
No, its too late. The visit could take you 2 hours. Its not worth.
Yes, there are. There is no age restriction, but children must be a certain height. More info on requirements for each simulator can be found on their website.
3,4 hours depends how much you like history and army
Like Kuo said.
I didn't see it playing at all or hear about it. The tour is way better than the movie
No, it is not included in the National Parks listing; however, USS Midway does offer senior discount tickets for $18. There are also deals on Groupon for tickets.
Yes. There are 2 on the green line. San Diego had a nice public transit. Also motorized scooters for rent are everywhere
Not sure. I would call and ask them.
You can order on line
Tuna harbor park would be best, though you can also meet at seaport village which has a coffee shop.
If you mean the price, it is for adults it's $23 , for kids $12 and I think kids under 5 years it's free
I agree. Just the basic military discount. It's actually not bad at all for what you get to see. You can also look on Groupon
I do not have coupons, but I know that it closes soon, around 6 the last tour leaves!
There are a lot of stairs, difficult for a stroller or a two year old without help.
No free admission any day
The audio tour and the information booklet are available in German.
I think you would have to contact the USS Midway directly but it's a museum so I'm unsure if they would do something like that.
Its in tip top shape
The stairs are narrow and very steep. You might contact them to see if they have an elevator.
You can ask at the ticket office or when entering I'm not sure I do not remember seeing
Go San Diego Pass and you have access to lots of different things around San Diego, and dint have to wait in ticket line, if you go early!
If you purchase them online they're $2 cheaper, but they don't have discounted tickets at the door or anything. Personally the price was lower than for what I valued the experience.
Free for serving military and discounted for retired.
Hi Samantha - Yes we are open New Years Day. The USS Midway Museum is closed only 2 days out of the entire year: Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day. Otherwise, we are open 10 AM - 5 PM, last admission at 4 PM. Thank you, Amanda
HI - We are open 10 AM - 5 PM, last admission at 4 PM every day. The USS Midway Museum is closed only 2 days out of the entire year: Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day. Thank you, Amanda
It is normally closed
Plan to be there at least 4 to 5 hours - way too much to see - lots of information- and things to see and touch
No, not really.
I do not know, I did not have the need to use a locker, I got in just with my back pack
No. Must bring your own. You can rent them locally.
$20 Senior $18
