I haven't heard anything more since the last talk by the Conservancy to contract with a group specializing in retro fitting old ships for repurposing them as floating something or others? The S.S.United States is most definitely not seaworthy in any remotely dreamable way & likely will never be again. Last May my brother & sister took a reservation only private tour of the ship along with past passengers & families of the past crews. And while much of the ship is now dismantled & many rooms within left as only hollow shells, it is by NO means completely gutted despite many posts to the contrary. I have personal pictures posted under my personal review here from less than a year ago showing the movie theater still intact & much of the ship still intact but just empty. The engine room still has it's massive boilers & gear housing motorworks. Unusable to be sure, yet still there. You can still see the markings on the top deck outside where shuffleboard was played. Sad...
It's totally gutted and not sea worthy, sad.
The ship has been stripped of all of its equipment. It would take millions of dollars to get this ship ready to sail again and that probably will never happen, but it's still beautiful to see
Unfortunately, No.
No it has not been repaired to sail as of yet.. it is still moored and yet to appear of having any repairs started
