There is no backpacking allowed inside the monument, but there are plenty of multi-day trails in the Chiricahuas south of the monument. That area is part of the Coronado National Forest. No backpacking trails connect the forest service areas to the monument trails. To see the best hoodoos you have to drive into the monument separately.
