September and October I'm sure are fine. But Inclement weather probably closed. No cost but check with the Park Services. Bing a camera, bonoculars, use the bathroom before going and bring some water. Breathtaking! If you like to hike go early in the morning 6 am. There's several trails. Water, sweater or jacket can be windy and chilly at the top. Hiking boots Snacks or lunch. There's a cabin on Mt Lafette. There's A book to write your name in. Took my kids up and showed them. Kids 6-7 yrs old. My dad used to tell us that there was a Mc Donald's at the top, but there isn't one. You may still be able to buy lunch at the cabin. Chilly. Best memories! Trails are marked. Some spots can be pracariouse.
