Is wilderness camping possible? Do I need a permit? How much is a permit if necessary? What are the fire restrictions?

Why in the world is Google asking me to comment or answer questions. I haven't been near the Cleveland National Forest for decades. Please somebody stop these college educated knuckleheads before they ruin this country.

You will need to get a parking permit on weekends. About $7.00 per day or $25.00 per year

No campfires while backpacking. The Descanso district is free, just call the Ranger station, they'll email a permit. Fires start very easily hence why they're banned. Limited water in most areas. Go on the forest Web page for phone numbers of the Ranger district you'll be in and for current closed areas.

Fire restrictions are almost always in place here in SoCal. There just isn't any water. Dry as a bone.
