There is free camping soon as you hit Zigzag. Mc.niel is huge and beautiful. Last time I was there it was free. Then from there all the way up 86 over the mountain there is both free and paid. All nice and well managed and others just far enough out of the beatin path to start telling late night big foot stories!
Yes at Road 39.Several spots. Best time to find a spot is on Wednesday. Lots of beauty and hiking trails. Quiet and cloudy nights is hand up to your face and can't see it.
