That place is like a piece of paradise: A beautiful lake with a view of an active volcano. I saw people paddle boarding, sunbathing, having picnics, bicycling and walking. However, the sellers of poison are everywhere; they were there too and that detracted from the moment. Sad!

It was an absolutely stunning view of the lake and Mt hood. The first mile or so is a pretty easy stroll through the woods with several bridges. The last .7 miles to the lake is several switchbacks up hill and the trail is decently rocky, I would recommend trekking poles for people who struggle with balance. In total my watch tracked 5 miles of walking the trail. It is also in the same parking lot as the alpine slide, I will definitely be back to do that, I had my dog though so it wasn't an option

Hiked near the end of the snow season, which meant the snow left on the trail was compacted into uneven ice. The trail to the lake lacked vistas, just nice forest with small tumbling streams. The snow covered lake was beautiful but underwhelming. Cliffs rising in the distance were magnificent, but distant. Finally the view of Mt Hood was no better than seen driving to trailhead. Parking good, restrooms available. As this trail is almost entirely under trees, I think this would be a good one during hot weather.

Trail was great. For some reason, people don't clean up after their dogs, so watch where you step. Trail was beautiful in the snow.

It was snowing up there when we went last week in January. It was open, some people had snow shoes on, some even climbing up with ski's (crazy) , yak tracks... we just had water proof hiking boots on.
Yes
You can just park at the ski Lodge for free. That's what I did and there were no issues.
