My son relinquished a dog he had rescued who had a lot of issues. He realized he could not give the dog what it needed so he took it to the shelter and they gave the dog back to the previous owners even after we told them the situation. I'm really sad about this and wished we had maybe gone to a different shelter

This is a beautiful, new animal shelter located off 120th Avenue in Adams County, CO. The animals in this facility are well-cared for & seem happy while waiting for their forever new families. Their impressive staff & volunteers work hard to help each animal in their care to be happy & calm. They also are very helpful to anyone wanting to adopt or who might have questions. Please consider this shelter if you want to adopt a new family member, volunteer, or even just visit the animals there. Donations are welcome, too. A great place to support!

They were very nice. And very helpful.

While I understand that they do not want you 'wasting their time' interacting with all the dogs. I think their set-in-stone policy of only letting you interact with 3 dogs is a bit idiotic. You can't tell the demeanor of a dog by looking at it in it's cage. Is the dog going to even like you? Will the dog want to be petted? 3 stars for the nice facilities, definitely - 2 stars for the policies.

Well you must have bad luck or something because I get a person Everytime I call, and can get there with ease.
Yep! You just need to go through a training.
Call and ask first but i have used hermosa vet on 54th and federal for about 15+ years and they do very good work at a very affordable price
Call and talk to Andrew Brooks. He can help you get started!
They were closed today but will be open tomorrow. Try looking at their lost dogs on their website, also on petharbor.
U cant
you have to call them
Yes
The best is to call them. I know they have Adoption Specials, then it is cheaper. At this time I believe there is a Cat Adoption Special
Absolutely!!! I've seen quite a few turtles at the shelter.
Sorry for the delayed response. It should be working now.
No, but we will never euthanize for time or space. Only if an animals illness is affecting their quality of life, or if the animal is unsafe for the community.
Your best bet would be to call them..the dogs they have change all the time.
She did get adopted at our clear the shelter event last week. :)
Visit the shelter to see what animals they have at the moment & speak with the personnel there about your interest. Also, follow the Riverdale Animal Shelter on Facebook & watch their listings. Easy to do! Good luck!
Can I take a dog that I can no longer take care of? Will I move from state to state and will not have space? --- thanks for answering
It is at the city level. Check with your city government
Depends on the age and type of animal you're going to adopt Dogs Over 6 months old: $100-300 6 months old and younger: $200-400 Cats Over 6 months old: $25-75 6 months old and younger: $50-115 Other Pets (based on species, breed, and age) Small Pet Animals: $5-60 Small Farm Animals/Fowll: $5-150
Yes they do
I would either call the front office or go in and visit the front 0ffice . I have dropped off pet food myself right there at the front desk for donations..
The adoption fees are steep. The kennels stay full. It's sad because being in the shelter breaks the dogs spirit. We just adopted our Zuri from there. She was very aggressive in the kennel but once she was home with us she just fell in love. The Humane Society said it was from fear and being kenneled. Best wishes to you and your pet.
same situation animal control said it was fine ridic they cant enforce laws
I'm not sure if they do, but I would recommend that if they don't, you get in touch with the Dumb Friends League at ddfl.org. They offer free or greatly reduced spaying, chipping and vaccinations. I get all my animals done through them.
call the place go in with a picture
I don't think the Adams Co. animal shelter boards. I would recommend you find out if your own vet boards. Some of the PetSmarts have pet motels, too. Also, you might try going to a kennel, but I would recommend a kennel as a last resort, and if you do use a kennel, make sure your animals get a kennel-cough vaccination from your vet before you send them over there.
You can donate just by bringing thing needed down. Call to be sure they need and can use your donation. They have storage but not for everything.
I think so. There they vaccinated my dog when they found her. But they also have more information.
Call during there normal hours they will tell you more and it's current adoption status.
Adams county animal shelter does not have a space or time limit and work with multiple other shelters and rescues to make sure every pet is adopted. Animals are never put down because they have simply been there too long.
They do the dogs they adopt out. I would try Denver Dumb League Pet Solutions or check out their mobile clinics. Cat spay neuter are currently free!
If you haven't gotten an answer yet I recommend calling as that is the quickest way to get an answer 😉
The website does indeed have section devoted to "Lost pets" which does include photos.
Ok I am 51, but I will look at the website that you provided. Thanks again
This week is their home for the holidays event... dogs 6 months and older have $20 adoption fees!
You can do an owner surrender at the shelter... just go in during buisness hours and see one of the front desk staff
Adams county animal shelter has low cost fees several times a year. Give them a call for dates.
Call them fill out application
Not sure that I understand the question. Are you asking the shelter if they make it a practice to do this kind of thing? or If they are familiar with it ever happening? OR... Are you asking us (the public) if we have ever been involved or witnessed this kind of thing?
Yes but I would call them or check online on website they have list of things acceptable too.
If you mean can middle schoolers volunteer on weekends, unfortunately no. Minimum age for volunteers is 16 years
Yes, for residents of Adams County and Unicorporated Adams County. $50-$85
They probably adopted your dog out. They like to do that
No, unfortunately we do not have a dish washer. Thank you though!
No
The best option is to have your local animal control come out to you and pick up the dog. Many people call the police/animal control when they lose their animal and the animal control people could have a record of who lost the dog to get the dog back to the owner. If you do not want to have them come to you, yes you can bring the dog to the shelter. Make sure you leave the dog in the car with a family member or have them walk the dog around outside while you go inside to tell them you found a stray. This way you lower the risk of a fight in the lobby. There is no charge to drop a stray off at the shelter.
Yes they give very good pricing on spay and neuter as well as shots. Really can't go wrong with doing business there.
I was able to get my cat back for free. They are very reasonable
Done, in the next few days.
They do not euthanize for time or space, only for untreatable severe injury or danger to public. Even a terminal cancer diagnosis does not get euthanasia if they still have good quality of life. They have hospice foster program so pets can live out their days in a home.
They use a combo of whatever is donated. Give her a few days to adjust. My pup did the same thing. It took her about 3 days to really start eating and getting use to a new environment.
There are a lot of low cost clinics around. Dumb friends league has a mobile clinic. Also planned Pethood in wheatridge is really cheap. That's where we've gotten 3 cats and a dog spayed. They're fantastic. All you have to do is Google low cost spay and neuter clinics for other options though. Adams county is great for vaccinations, the have cheap clinics, which can be found on there website.
I dont think he can but you could ask them i think he has to be 16 if i remember right
I want to know the different ways they contact you and if it's different for a chipped dog. For example: maybe a tagged dog would get a phone call and maybe a chipped dog would get a call and letter?? I'm not sure but I need to know. Thank you Found out a chipped dog is supposed to get a phone call and letter but it doesn't always happen
There are dogs in different stages of adoption, the majority are available for adoption today though. Some are in Lost dogs, which means they still have owners that have not retrieved them yet. There are others in Getting To Know You, which means they are still getting some behavioral training before they go to the adoption floor. There is a great foster program at the humane society, certain dogs are chosen to go into the program fostering yes. If you are interested in become a foster puppy parent, check out the list of qualifications on the humane society website. There you can also take the initial steps in becoming a foster.
Commerce City is the only city in Adams County that has a breed restriction. You can bring your pup into the humane society for a license and get any and all vaccinations. Make sure to check the humane society's website for Low Cost Vaccination Clinics. They are on Wednesdays and make the vaccinations extremely affordable.
Also, adoption fees vary by age and if animal is already spayed or neutered.
Many shelters have the same charges
They would be more than appreciative of the donation.. I'm sorry for your loss..
I volunteered there for a year and that's the 1st thing we do 🤗
Also go to pet harbor there you can search all area shelters
Yes they do. Ive sern hamsters there. Why cant u care for the guinea pigs any longer? Can they be handled?
They will not be in town till this friday
In July they do a half off of adult dogs if I remember correctly.
We dont do public spay or neutering. Only the animals that go up for adoption at the shelter. You can always call to get recommendations for places that do.
They should have all of that covered in the papers that you had signed as well as in that booklet of stuff that they have you when you afford the dog.
Not necessarily. My friend's daughter has been a volunteer for the Denver Dumb Friends League for 2 years and she is only 12. Couldn't hurt to call.
Look on Petfinder and petharbor that'll give you all the Adams County has in their shelter
