What are the steps in reuniting a pet to their family? Are the steps different if your pet has a chip?

I want to know the different ways they contact you and if it's different for a chipped dog. For example: maybe a tagged dog would get a phone call and maybe a chipped dog would get a call and letter?? I'm not sure but I need to know. If your pet is there under stray, go to the front and tell them what pen they are in. They will have you show proof that is your pet if it's the pets first time there. If they are microchiped in your name they will try to contact you.
