I only went for a free tour. They have so much stuff to use including , tools, 3d printing to robotics and woodworking. blacksmithing etc. Open 24/7, and no commitment like gym memberships. This will be one my go-to places when I want to make anything and everything.

I have been a member of the Dallas Makerspace since 2011. This community has been tremendously impactful for me. I highly recommend coming for a tour and becoming a member!

Questions & Answers

Is this strictly a learning/teaching environment, or are general public allowed to utilize the resources that Dallas makers has at its disposal for a fee?

Warner A | Oct 27, 2020
Lisa Selk | Oct 27, 2020

Hi Warner, There are monthly membership fees. Many of the tools require training, and some have consumables charges. Members have 24 hour access. You should stop by for a tour! https//calendar.dallasmakerspace.org. :)

can i join classes without being a member?

Hung Dang | Oct 28, 2018
Stephen Wylie | Oct 28, 2018

That's up to the class instructor, and is a choice made when the event is added to the calendar. Non-members can easily register for classes if the instructor did not specify this option.

Do we have to RSVP for the open tour night if we’re a first timer?

Sheena Valentin | Oct 28, 2018
farley pants | Oct 27, 2020

No, the front door will either be open or someone will be there to watch it and let people in. There will probably also be more than one tour group, but those are not official Parking is free and there are more spaces behind the building

Does Makerspace have a brake? A shear would also be nice but I can work around it.

We have tours on Saturday morning starting at 10am.

Do you guys rent out spaces we can work with our own power tools?

Welti Dachshunds | May 30, 2022
Chuck Graf | Jun 29, 2022

It's like a gym membership. $60/ month gets you access 24/7, and use of the tools. There are how-to classes for everything, for free or a small fee. Look at the website dallasmakerspace.org.

Do you have a large line art flat bed scanner that can scan large art work?

When do they have events for kids?

Ms Gemini | Oct 27, 2020
A G | Oct 27, 2020

The makerspace is intended to be an open workshop for adults. This isn't a boutique STEM lab or arts & crafts studio aimed at kids. . DMS is a functional fabrication workshop for adults that pay a monthly membership. There are expensive and dangerous tools in the open shop. The classrooms are separated from the shop and could be safer, however in general the space is not suitable for groups of children.

There is a slew of different groups and interests at the Maker Space. While this is not my area of expertise, I have seen a few guys teaching AI algorithms and other things I am in no way versed in. I recommend looking to the Dallas Maker Space talk forum. I believe you can join the forum without being a paying member, and I know you can view the forum without being signed in. Google dallas maker space talk or Dallas Maker space forum, it will appear in the results.

Who are the instructors? Do they get paid? Who are the owners? Who makes all the decisions?

MANBEARPIG 7734 (manbearpig7734) | Oct 28, 2019
Michelle Dodd | Oct 28, 2019

Instructors can be Anyone. They get a small fee, If they have 3 or more people in the class. You don't have to be a member to teach, but classes have to be open to all. To my knowledge, there are members, not owners. There is a small, monthly fee for membership. Decisions are made by a Board.
