A park full of all kinds of adventures. A decent drive from the Twin Cities but an easy drive. I would definitely recommend staying at the park's campsite (make sure to reserve ahead!). We did the full ~7 mile hike that combines a few shorter hikes. It was an easier hike that would be accessible to many people. I would definitely recommend this. Make sure to spend some time in Luverne nearby. It's a fun little town with lots going on. Check out Take 16 brewery! I would recommend Blue Mounds State Park to everyone!

I loved hiking at this park. It’s beautiful and full of history. I was able to see the Buffalo herd and camped overnight. The campsites are clean and well maintained. You can even stay in a teepee here. The rocks are nothing short of stunning.

Interesting park on the border of MN and SD. A herd of 50 buffalo roam a large area of the park. There is a prairie walk that is awesome as the sun is going down. The climbers area is a spectacular view and provides some bouldering opportunities. Camp sites are pretty open- the RV camp culture was pretty evident in any park I went to in the area. Good stop off point if going further west. Lots of people stayed one night and continued their journey while I was here. Close to Garretson and Pipestone Monument as well as Lewis and Clark Trail.

We camped here for the first time with 3 other campers. 8 of us had a great time. Loved the hiking trails, family camping atmosphere and the beautiful park with Buffalo. Cliff line quarry is awesome! Make sure you yell and listen to your echo! Great for families 👪

Are they online? Also, do they close any gates of we were to get there later at night? And thank you very much! That would have been a bummer to get there with no permit haha
There is a 6 mile bike trail leading through the park and into Luverne. There isn't a place to kayak in the park, but is good kayaking nearby on the Rock River.
I don't know if they make tents big enough for horses
Yes. The campground has free wifi- pretty good coverage throughout the campground, but the signals come from the bathroom buildings, so the closer you are to those the better the strength. There's also free wifi at the park office.
Luverne has a man-made lake in town called "The Lake" for fishing and swimming.
I know nothing about a reservoir unless you are talking about the little lake and dam. The lower lake was not open for swimming when I was there earlier this summer. They were doing some earth moving down there.
I think you can, but I would recommend checking with the check in office.
Yes. We've brought ours there many times
There is not a open visitors center. Just the gate by the camping area to the north west side.
