MARCUS DE MATOS
One of the most amazing places in Florida. Beautiful campsites, great hunting access areas and wildlife throughout. Just do me a favor, if you're going there, please clean up after yourselves, lately I have seen an increased amount of trash and many different areas.

Not sure if this was a separate park, but we saw it while at Manatee Springs State Park.

Midway Campground, Monument Lake Campground, and Burns Lake Campground are on the reservation system. You can find them at recreation.gov. Midway has electric sites for RVs as well as tent sites. Prices vary depending on season ranging from $14 for tents to 30 something for powered RV sites. Bear Island is also open but it's a long gravel road to get there (20+ miles). Sites are $10 a night. Dump stations are located at Midway and Donna Drive. Check nps.gov for more info. Enjoy your visit! It's an amazing place!
It does not have a main entrance persay. There are a series of access points off of both 75 and 41 on the Western side of the peninsula. There are also a series of access points off of Turner River Road as well as bird on road and wagon wheel road. There is no real restriction on pedestrian access only motorized vehicle access. The Oasis visitor center may be the best place to explore and walk in on the Florida trail. This is about 2/3 of the way across from Miami to the West Coast on the North side of 41
You must have a permit for off road
I think back in 2017 there were a few reported down on the south end.
Yes. The park never closes. There is a nice pull off behind the western visitor center with minimal light pollution.
There are no entry barriers at Big Cypress, so I'm pretty sure the answers yes.
Good down halfway creek around the mouths of creeks or even on 41 side of 41 is great for fresh and salt water species
Open 7 days a week.
We drove through in a car... never saw any other type of vehicle.
YES Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has advanced a plan to allow hunting in the 147,000 acres
You have to go on line you possibly can get one at the visitor center. it's 14.00/day with pass and 28.00 w/o pass to camp.
They run night sky programs during the winter at the swamp visitor center. Rangers give a presentation and local astronomy clubs come out and let you look through telescopes. Definitely bring bug spray, they're relentless. Check the website to find out dates and times.
They are open every day but if the shut down continues then there won't be any rangers on staff (no rangers led programs). The gift shop is open though and all the hiking is available.
Please never leave your dog in the car!
Only if you convert it and attach a giant fan on the back and pontoons underneath.
Trees primarily and swamp water. If you have a boat there are boat ramps so you can venture into said swamp. You can spot the occasional gator, florida panther, bob cat, various snakes, and deer, but you are guaranteed to see all the birds and insects you could possibly ever want to. It's also got a nice smell of swamp if your looking to take in the aroma of rotting water foliage. Also, if you are close enough, you can spot the crazy Florida drivers making their trek throhigh alligator alley from Tampa to Miami.
As they said, it is a national preserve. It is administered by the NPS.. I There is a passport stamp, if you are in to that. There are some hiking trails, visitor centers and alligators. Pretty neat place and worth the visit.
Visitor centers, no big shopping in the Everglades. Shopping is great in Naples and Bonita Springs.
Yup, drove it about a week ago. There was a road work sign that said the road was closed in 12.8 miles. We asked a man on the Collier road crew and he told us it was open and that the other road crew hadn't retrieved the sign yet.
Yes. Mostly... There may be restrictions in some areas and on the boardwalks. Absolutely on a leash if permitted. The gators love dog snacks... Take the leash law very seriously for your dog's safety and protection.
