Great little 'Hidden" Gem. It's only 2 hours from Coral Springs and even closer to Miami. It is primitive, but a good getaway if you don't mind driving 20-30 miles on unpaved roads. I have a Jeep so it had no problem with going a good speed, but be prepared for it to be a dust storm. Highly recommend for a fun camp in the "Everglades"

I have been to many many nature trails, campsites all over Florida, but Bear Island is something apart. This is a completely remote area right in the hear of the Big Cypress, only the strong will have what it takes to spend the night as this is a primitive campsite, no drinkable water or electricity onsite. Campsites are great, lots of shade, trees and privacy. Beautiful sky at night, something apart. Downside is that you can still hear traffic from I-75, especially at night.

The place is peaceful and quiet but the access road is the worst road I have ever driven in the United States it was torture the 20 miles I had to drive and it took me an hour

Somewhat private sites. Very quiet unless a big rig with a noisy generator parks beside you. I generally only pay for 2 nights so I can move to quieter location. Lots of 4WD roads to bicycle on. They want cash only now, don't know why. Clean outhouse. Trash dumpsters at entrance & first loop camping area. To my surprise some cell coverage!

It ia a long bumpy road as Rob said its 15+miles but there are rv/motorhome that camp. I'm sure hunting is allowed outside of the campground area. Their information Maps along the roads as you get closer to the campground

About 45 sites it is first come first serve and nobody to talk to on the phone or at the campground.
