5 stars and not for the reason you might think! We drove about 3 hours to save compared to the local price. When we went to drop off our dog, the consult took longer than expected; the surgeon did multiple tests and then told us that she didn't need surgery! It was misdiagnosed by 2 local vets and may have been spinal shock or a partial tear that was improving. Even though they stood to lose the money, they were honest with us! I hate to think that we might have spent $6,000 at a vet near us and put our dog through a surgery unnecessarily.

I cannot express how beyond thankful I am for helping hand to exist. I live in NYC and after a 1k check up (urine, x-rays, sonogram etc)my dog had a huge bladder stone. They quoted me 3k for the procedure after already paying 1,500 in tests and what not. My dogs stone was so big she was peeing blood and had a UTI. After researching every vet in the tri state area, within days I came across HH. It was like too good to be true. I was trying to do extensive research bc the procedure is intense. Thank you to everyone who also left reviews bc without that information I wouldn’t have decided to make the trip to Virginia. After being in contact with HH they gave me the closest date available-within 4 days I was heading there. We stayed at a hotel in the area (recommended by HH) for 3 days to give my dog time to rest before heading back to nyc in car. Everything went great, I was hesitant to drop my dog off an over night hospital for the first night, since my dog kept whining the first night and I was afraid something was wrong. But thankfully she was better the next day and off we headed back to nyc. Within 1-2 weeks she got her cone and stitches removed back in nyc and since then has been on a special diet. HH saved my dogs life and I will be forever grateful!

I can't say enough positive things about Helping Hands. From their checking process through their patient staff, great expertise, post-op care and their mission to provide affordable veterinary surgery, they are just impressive all around. …Thank you so much Rachel! We are thrilled you had such a positive experience and that we are were able to get you in so quickly! Dental care can definitely be life-changing! We send big hugs to you both!

This place is a godsend! They took care of my 14yr old 4 legged family member for an operation that would've cost triple the price in my area. Words can't express how thankful I am to have found them. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!Thank you so much for your feedback! We are so, so happy you found us and we were able to help! We send big hugs to you both!💙

I can't imagine that they don't. They are amazing. I saw large and small breeds there.
Prasia - I have the Spring 2018 Procedure Pricing Guide and for dogs, an amputation for a leg is $755, and $325 for a toe or a tail. Still, I guarantee wayyyyy cheaper than your vet. Hope that helps.
It took me only 2 weeks to get an appointment for my kitty to have his eye surgery. When the little booger popped a stitch, they fixed it the very next day.
Hello Rita. We are closed today so no doctors are in the office. If you check your discharge instructions, they should tell you when it is ok to remove the collar. 14 days is the standard recommendation, but be sure and check your discharge paperwork in case your pet had a different instruction. We hope your dog is feeling so much better!
We do not do vaccinations but thank you so much for reaching out. We streamline to only advanced surgery and dental care. This allows us to offer these services much more affordably. If you do a search for low-cost spay/neuter clinics in your area, most of those also offer low-cost vaccinations. Thank you for being such a responsible pet parent :)
Hello Fallone...we are so sorry you and your pet are experiencing this. We do not offer the TPLO repair at this time. If you would like to talk to us about the ACL repair we offer, please call us at 804-355-3500. Thank you so much for reaching out!
Look on their website, they offer discounts for certain hotels.
Helping Hands just completed two surgeries on a 6 yo Shih Tzu; a dental & a luxating patella, on the same day, for us. She got wonderful care & is recuperating extremely well. We are able to pay in cash but not everybody is able to do that. That is where Care Credit comes in to help. Just like any credit card, there are usually high interest fees but your beloved pet/s get the care they need & in some cases, it is life saving & relieving them of discomfort.
You definitely need to get that checked. You have to think you might think it is expensive now, but anytime the longer you wait the more expensive. There are options out there. I would look up affordable pet health services. PETA offers lower cost on certain things, pet insurance is another option, look up different vets. It boils down to if there is will there is a way :)
Confirmed diagnosis. They are not full service. But you can call their office. They are very helpful over the phone
No waiting room. We never went in the building. They do not call until its over. As they told us, "no news is good news" they won't give updates over the phone if you call either. This is not a warm and fuzzy vet hospital, but a bare bones surgical clinic. They did a great job with our girl, but don't expect a caring vet tech to cater to you because they wont.
Their web site shows cost of all services
They don't pull healthy teeth they said but will pull what needs to be and fix what they can. Also do cleaning at the dance time. I'm not sure what it would all cost you because ours was 2 surgeries including the dental and 2 teeth pulled plus eye surgery for 620. Very reasonable and very friendly staff and doctor
We are so sorry you and kitty are experiencing this! If you have your diagnosing veterinarian send the records to us for our Doctors to review, we can tell you if we are able to help. Thank you so much for reaching out!.You can call us Monday at 804-355-3500. We are wishing you and kitty the very best!♥
Just had our 7 y/o bulldog there to take 12 bad teeth out. They found a lemon sized cyst under his tongue and removed that too. We stayed in a hotel for two nights to make it easier on him which I recommend if you're out of town. Both surgeries and all travel expenses total were less than I was quoted for just his tooth extraction in the area we live.
That information is readily available on their website. The price will vary with the age of the dog and whether XRays are included. Please check the website. It's very useful.
Like Veronica said, Helping Hands can't help you with this, but definitely sounds like an allergy. Switch to a food with a different protein base - try lamb and rice and avoid all chicken to see if it helps. You really should check with her vet, though.
Hello Deanne, we are so sorry your dog is having these issues. You are correct, we only perform surgery & dental care---that is how we do it much more affordably. We wish you guys the very best♥
Helping Hands will definitely save you money if your pet does need surgery. I highly recommend them. There are steps to follow first. You must visit you regular vet first to get a diagnosis. You must forward a copy of that diagnosis to Helping Hands to set up an appointment. They do take Care Credit if you do not have the funds available at this time. You will have to bring your pet in early for check in and come back at the end of the day to pick him/ her up. You must take your pet back to your regular vet for aftercare within 24 hours postsurgery. We saved about 2400$ by taking the trip down to Richmond. It was well worth it. Our pet is much happier and still going strong a year later. Best of luck to you and your pet whatever you decide.🙂
Hello American Bully For Life...C-SECTION $555.00 with spay – $655.00 without spay, After hours C-SECTION-[if possible to get a team together], $1,555 with spay – $1,655 without spay (includes after hours fee). Here is a link to our Prices & Procedures page on our website: https://www.helpinghandsvetva.com/procedures-pricing/ Thanks so much for reaching out! Please call us at 804-355-3500 with any questions :)
They do. They gave us the option of getting dental x-rays for our little guy when we were there. Hope this helps.
Are you sure it's not bladder stones? Cause if that's the case then your dog would need a cystotomy which is $655.
Most prices for services are posted online, go to https://www.helpinghandsvetva.com/procedures-pricing/
No. It is a low cost surgical and dental clinic for cats and dogs. They are caring, talented and the best prices that I have seen.
The eye Care they perform is listed on their website.
They are a surgery only clinic. They dont see appointments at all. You just drop your dog off in the morning for a dental cleaning, or mass removal, or whatever surgery, and then pick them back up at the end of the day. I'm a vet tech. Sounds like your dog may have arthritis or luxating patella or could have injured himself. I would recommend taking him to your regular vet... Unless you think he needs surgery on that leg? But I would get it evaluated first elsewhere before just taking him in to Helping Hands
Hi, you should call in the morning if they don't answer you on this site. But they should be able to help you:-) so actually you should call them early tomorrow morning. 🤗 good luck with your baby 🦄 Go to the website- there should be a price list that says everything they do.
My dogs have had a total of 4 surgeries, not all the same dog. They are friendly, professional and reasonable. No surgery over $999.00. All my dogs have came home great. They have a place comfortable to wait or they give you a map of Richmond to visit. I recommend Help8ng Hands to everyone that there animal needs surgery. Best of luck to you. I always went the evening before and stayed at the local hotels down the street that are dog friendly. You have an early drop off. It was much easier going g the day before. Message me if you have any questions.
I'm a vet tech and i just took my two dachshunds to Helping Hands for a dental cleaning and extractions. They were amazing, efficient, clean, professional, and everythi g i had hoped for. The most important thing to note is that HH is an out patient clinic only. Which means there is no hospitslization. So if your pet has any complications they will be transported to the closest pet ER.
Thank you all!
Call! They are always so kind and knowledgable! I've broight my dog in their for 2 surgeries now! They're great!
Try to get everything done at the same time it benefits you and your pet. And they are wonderful😍🐦🐕🐱🐎🐁🐾😊
Thank you so much for reaching out! We are not a full-service practice. We only perform surgical and dental procedures. Streamlining to only these two services allows us to offer them much more affordably for folks. If you do a search of low-cost spay/neuter clinics in your area, most also perform low-cost vaccines. Thank you so much for being a responsible pet parent! :)
We are so sorry you and your pet are experiencing this. We offer this surgery if it is a Grade I, II, or III for $995.00. Please call us at 804-355-3500 and we will be happy to speak with you about this and answer any questions!
Thank you so much for reaching out! No, we do not do shots or routine care. We only perform surgery and dental care at a lower cost. If you are in the Richmond area and your pet is spayed or neutered, Prevent A Litter (P.A.L.) in Carytown does low-cost shots as does Richmond Animal League's (R.A.L.) Loving Spay/Neuter Clinic :)
Check their website for their services, but this sounds more like what a regular vet does. Helping Hands is very focused on surgeries and dental cleaning. Even after surgeries, my dogs regular vet took care of after care because Helping Hands isn't that type of hospital.
They are substantially less than your regular vet, with EXCELLENT quality. No payments but worth calling. Rate them a 5+
Helping Hands does not do cataract surgeries as a vet opthomologist must perform it. Animal Eye Care of Richmond does those. They are located just off 295 in Powhatan County. My vet is Dr. Michael Blair there but either he or the female vet are excellent. You would need bloodwork done by your own vet as well as a referral faxed prior. Given your dog is 13 yrs. old & the price of cataract surgery ( roughly $5,000), I would recommend also getting abdominal x rays done as there could be malignant tumors internally that do not show up in the bloodwork. This very thing happened to me & we had to have ours euthanized 2 wks. later. Had we known or it showed up in the bloodwork, we would not have done it.
I would call them and ask. They are wonderful and they will tell you what the risks are. You can wait there while it's done if you like. They have a nice waiting room with a tv and snacks.
They so that surgery and their website has pricing.
The website has a list of options. They are amazing. I highly recommend them.
