We were able to reserve a more spacious site, but be aware of the size when reserving. Many sites are small and close together. The bathrooms were large and kept clean. The beach/day area across the highway is very popular and crowded during the day, but plenty of space to watch the sunset unobstructed. There is also pedestrian over pass from the campground to the day are of the park. The highway was not a problem for traffic or noise at the campground.

Sleeper is a pleasant park with many tree shaded camping spots (and some sunny) for RVs, trailers, and tents. Sites are fairly level with electric hookup. Each site has a fire ring and a picnic table. There is an RV dump station near the exit with potable water. There is a shower house and rest rooms near the center of camp. Most of the sites are across the road from Lake Huron. There are two well-marked trails south of the camp area. The shorter one has interpretive signs. There is about a half mile of sandy beach along Lake Huron, with about half of it dog friendly. The beach accommodates views of sunrise and sunsets over the water due to the location at the tip of the thumb. There are also some glamping sites available - either in the wooded area or near the beach. Dogs must be kept on a 6-foot leash and are allowed on the trails and part of the beach. Bags are provided at several locations for picking up the manure.

This is our family’s favorite campground. We LOVE it! The campground has a very ‘woodsy’ feel, which can make it a little tricky to get into with travel trailers, but manageable. It is a very clean campground and peaceful. Across the street they have a huge dog friendly beach which is well maintained! In the campground you have access to trail heads that are very well groomed & maintained. About 15 minutes east is Port Austin and 20 mins west is Caseville! Port Austin is our favorite with a dog friendly restaurant, farmers market every Saturday, kayak rentals and much more. It’s close travels from Metro Detroit but far enough away to get a break from the crazy busy lives we all lead. Highly recommend this place!

Mostly big campsites, a lot of hilly terrain on the inside, flatter grounds on most of the outside sites. Quiet and clean for the most part. Easy access to the beach and park across the road.

Yes
Yes!. I found out that there are several RV providers that have been certified to deliver, set up and take away campers and even large RVs. This allows outdoor camping for those who want the experience of staying in a camper but not the ownership of one. It’s a great option for those who want to explore and camp throughout Michigan but don’t want to tow a 30 foot camper for 700 miles. See for details https://thumbwind.com/2020/08/31/rv-camper-rental-michigan-state-park/
There are many day park spots to grill at near the parking area and even grills provided. I have also seen people grill at the picnic spot near the stairway to the beach. I think grilling on the beach is prohibited officially but if done discretely, I wouldn't think anyone would say anything.
If you're staying at the park, you can cross the road and swim for free.
Yes they are now. The left side of the beach is dog friendly as of the last 2 years
Yes but make sure you have the P on your registration. My family and I go on a Daycation there quite often when the weather is warm!
Ask the DNR about Sand Road. I don't know the rules for ORVs back there.
Not for overnight camping. They have some raised platform tents just up the hill from the beach that can be reserved.
Starting in the Summer of 2020, high end camping has come to Michigan’s Sleeper State park in the Thumb. Four beach and six forest platform tents have been set up to offer a private, upscale "glamping" outdoor experience.

Google maps shows 25 mins 16 miles
I have four siblings and we all love to fish! We didnt bring to much gear because we were really there for the lake. No-one fishes on the lake, its pretty much for swimmers but in the area we went on a river ride where we got a few kayaks and canoes and there were fish in there. We didn't catch any but im sure you could catch something. As for tha campground.... Theres not really places for fishing because thr lake is right there. Goodluck and have fun! Its so beautiful and the sunsets everynight are outrageously gorgeous!
Its awesome and very friendly. Watched the sunset from the beach very cool.
Yes they do!
Yes it's open past Labor day. I'm not sure what time the gates open in the morning but they close the gates at 10 pm. Hope that helps
There is a rather tame off-road experience at Rush Lake State game area. Which is nearby. The sandy trail, called Sand Road, goes through the forest, past a local rifle range and ends at Rush Lake. Doing a little 2 tracking is one of the 17 Amusing Things To Do In Caseville Besides The Cheeseburger Festival. Search for it on thumbwind.com
A small boat can go in at oak beach but the boat ramp is a little iffy.
For this year if you have are rec pass you can, but I've heard starting next year there will be a fee
Yes
Yes, to both questions Kathy Hawkins.
Nope, there is not propane for sale there. But 5 miles down the road in caseville you can fill up
The bath house buildings close mid October, leaving it rustic camping with access to vault toilets till end of November. The park reopens the beginning of April
