Breathtakingly beautiful! We decided to stop by on our way to Portland and I’m glad we did! Park is clean, quiet and full of pine trees. And of course picnic areas with tables and grills. It’s just 3 hours away from NYC which makes it perfect for weekend getaways. recommend 10/10

Besides being a gruesome hike, I enjoyed the peacefulness. The paths were marked clearly, glad there were plenty of copies available showing all the trails. Was a cool day too, but good weather for a hike.

Wonderful area for hiking or picnics. We hiked the loop trail. At a casual pace and stopping every so often to enjoy the views, it took us a little over an hour. Trail was well marked and well maintained. Great area, great afternoon.

This is the perfect place for any outdoor activity including hiking, swimming, riding bikes, kayaking, fishing, and having cookouts. They have grills here and also benches through out the park. There is also a boat launch. I enjoy swimming …

You have to go all the way to the end of the road. Park in the last parking lot.its a ten minute walk. Go all the way down the main path till you see the water theres gonna be a path on the left. Take that path all the way. the rock will be off that path down another path on your right there will also be a sign that say rock island pointing you to the left im pretty sure.
They def let floaties.
There are 3 backpacking campsites available by reservation only for 1 night only next to Breakneck pond, which is about a mile hike from the park road.
10 min hike to rock point from the last parking lot.
No as far as I know you have to reserve a camping area
Yes, I the tables were there when I was there last month.
Yes, the booth has been closed but they are ticketing out of state cars who don't purchase a day permit
Any thing you would expect in New England...check with d.e.e.p
Parking lot is not huge but it has probably 10 to 15 spots for trailers in cars
If you are not there before 8 am you will be walking a good while. And then to find a spot to set up is another challenge
No
Well there are fire pits (those low grills) really close to the water. And it's pretty much a first come basis.
You have to go all the way to the end of the road. Park in the last parking lot then its a 10 minute walk in the woods. Go all the way down woods path till you see water in front of you then go to the left trail. Keep going on that path. The rock is on a path to the right off of that trail and im pretty sure that there is a trail sign naming it rock island that points you to the right.
Keep walking past the boat ramp down the trail.
You can, but you have to apply at least a couple of weeks before doing so. Application form here: https://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.asp?a=2716&q=325032&deepNav_GID=1621#application
What is floaties? I go there every week pretty much
The grills can be found at certain sites, if you prefer a more off the beaten path area bring your own grill grate. The grills are available for use year round. Leashed pets allowed and welcome. Miles of hiking trails and several overnight wilderness camps are available if you sign up to camp and get an overnight permit. The restroom choice is from sanican type in the parking area or rustic out house type. Best ones are in the parking lot by the boat launch. No toilets in the wilderness area, bring a shovel.
Yes. It's for your safety.
Yes. I haven't heard anything different. I think they're supposed to be on leash though.
Later in the day is usually a good time to go, It's less crowded and parking lot closer to trail is better.
You will need to get there by 6 am if you want any hope to get a decent site. I suggest hiking to the farther sites since the ones that are close get exceedingly loud and crowded.
Yes. This is the best place ever for me and my family. We love it very much.
