I enjoyed my visit to the park. I wish the presentation, of the highest point of elevation in Missouri, was more than a sign in the ground. But, the hike to Mena Sauk Falls more than made up for it.

Good, secluded trail with a couple scenic views and amazing waterfall. I did the hike from Taum Sauk to Johnson Shut Ins State Park and I was satisfied, but it was a very difficult hike due to the rocks, elevation, and heat. Also beware of ticks!

A wonderful hike on my birthday to the highest point in Missouri. Easy paved walk to plaque. Hike about two miles then path got muddy from the nights rain and rocky, so we decided not to go all the way to the Falls. It was beautiful 🍂🍁🍃🍁🍂🍃

To truly enjoy Taum Sauk will take you on some of the more difficult hikes in Missouri. No extreme elevation change or truly rough terrain, but enough to satisfy even the most avid hikers and backwoods campers. Would not recommend for …

The elevation printed on a stone marker at the top is1772.68 MSL ( feet above sea level) (see my photo attached to the map). It's not very high or steep. You could access it in a wheelchair. It's a nice place to hike.
No, but it's only a about a 25 to 30 minutes from Johnson Shut-ins state park which is one of the best swimming places in Missouri.
The pumped-storage hydroelectric plant was built to help meet peak power demands during the day. Electrical generators are turned by water flowing from a reservoir on top of Proffit Mountain into a lower reservoir on the East Fork of the Black River. At night, excess electricity on the power grid is used to pump water back to the mountaintop
You have to hike 1.5 miles over rugged terain!
Most of them are green and have started falling, but you can see few trees are turning. You would get nice views while hiking there.
If you are talking about Mina Sauk falls then please take the Ozark Trail and keep walking as per the signage for Mina Sauk Falls Trail (3 miles). I doubt if you can see any waterfall this time because of less rain, we were there 3 weeks ago, hiking on trail was an adventure and loved picturesque views. Trail is rocky. Keep water and wear hiking shoes.
Yes. It's very close to the parking for the trails. Very spots, water spigot and a.vault toilet. So it's pretty basic, but I'd use it again without hesitation.
I've only really done the loop that goes to the falls. Sometimes I can go the whole thing and not see another person, but normally I'll see some couples, families, or females with dogs. I don't think I've ever encountered any males up there traveling alone (that I remember). No one has set off any alarms in my mind while I've been up there (I'm law enforcement). Still, never hurts to take precautions. You have pepper spray so that's something.
Usually low on Toilet Paper. Bring your own soap. Usually 1 to 2 tables per campsite. Parking right there. Fire pit. Short walk to great views. About 20 minute walk to the tower (highest point in Missouri).
It started out as a Boy Scout Trail and became a State Park, there's info from the Missouri Dept of Natural Resources online and at the office on site. There are trails, paved and gravel roads, a large platform viewing deck at one parking lot, and a tower at another both are too. It is actually a mountain and it stands only 1690 above sea level and maybe has some floor to base views 600 to 1000 feet ....it was created 1.5 billion years ago and is virtually solid granite. The top.is more like a long ridge top.than it is a peak. There's a nice waterfall along the trail and nearby is Tom Sauk Lakes and dam, you should read about them....The whole area is considered the St. Francois Mountains, it is much older than the Ozark Plain that surrounds them to the south, west, and north....it's a place on earth that doesn't appear to have ever been submerged by an ocean ....Second oldest known formations in North America ...in a word, mystic for those aware of their surroundings
No places to swim here. There is a seasonal waterfall after rains though.
