We were staying nearby but woke up early for the sunrise and man this hotel's restaurant was pumping out some delicious smells. There was still 20 minutes till opening at 6:30 so I raced back to get the rest of my family. We were about the 6th or 7thparty seated that Tuesdays morning. We had excellent service by everyone except out server Sylvia. She was decent but seemed pretty grouchy. Stephanie her assistant was fabulous, front of house was kind as well. Food hit the spot, not necessarily the best breakfast but probably was the best breakfast you can have within the State Park. We were so happy to stumble upon this place.

The food here is very good and we experienced it with the (limited) take-away menu, which is why I give it 2 stars. The front of house is a disaster. Reservations are unobtainable except far in advance, and the people with reservations were kept waiting for hours. Walk-ins are uniformly quoted ‘2 hours wait’ and it then stretches to three hours, at which time there will not be enough time to eat before the house shuts (at 9). A small amount of investment and training would improve the situation, but its a captive audience in a beautiful place…so I suggest you go for sandwiches from the deli at the supermarket onsite instead. I am not kidding.

The hotel is located on the south rim, it is a, amazing location. However, the hotel needs a complete facelift. The old west atmosphere is in desperate need of a new twist. They need to do some serious maintenance if they are going to keep charging the outrageous prices they do. The staff does not seem to care. The food in the restaurant was very good as was the service, but only in the restaurant.

This hotel was built around 1920. Don’t expect all the modern conveniences like microwaves or 2020 decor. It’s a lodge-not a Hyatt. Very very rustic. Excellent food. The website tells you to make reservations for lunch and dinner when you book the hotel. Do it!!! Or you wait a long time or not get in. You can always cancel. The service was excellent everywhere and the food was excellent. Good gift shop. It is pricy and you’ll pay a lot for a big room (like 2 queens). Being situated right on the South Rim is worth every penny.

I did not stay there I talked to others who did and they were happy
Reservations are required for dinner at El Tovar, however you can get a drink at the bar (which includes sitting on the veranda) and order appetizers without a reservation.
Limited parking, maybe park at campground and walk over
Charles Whittlesey designed the El Tovar in 1905. It was built in conjunction with the Santa Fe railroad. It took two years to build and construction was complete in 1905.
I would call now and ask for a table by the back window overlooking the canyon. Worth it for sunset. If not, do the same for sunrise. However, they can squeeze you in as a hotel guest....just have a drink in the lounge while you wait.
I don't think you can get spa massage in the grand canyon. Best to stay in the big hotel outside grand canyon National Park.
I don't know but if you call the restaurant and talk to the chef they were always very very helpful during our stay.
Who needs wifi, just step outside abd enjoy the view instead!
https://www.grandcanyonlodges.com that is the address of the hotel for reservations
T-shirt, jeans, tank top, shorts, sundress... Anything is acceptable! We went directly after through hiking the Grand Canyon and were acceptable. 😂
No. There may be something in Grand Canyon Village.
Just call the front desk and they can arrange something for you
Not many businesses around there. Everything around is owned by xtera so I imagine it's all open
There's no cancellation list
Train rides are from Williams only. Grand Canyon does have a small air port. Helicopter rides over the canyon are available from las Vegas.
I do not understand why the trip is for the question!
Yavapai Lodge only South Rim hotel that has pet friendly rooms. There is a basic kennel on the South Rim.
We took a 20 minute $23 cab ride from the hotel. Maverick helicopter was the best thing we did on the trip. Absolutely worth every penny.
Try on Hotels.com. However, it is small and may well be booked out. Bright angel is also an option.
