Deeply disappointed. I've followed the sanctuary for a long time on social media; have read extensively about wolves, and was very excited to see this place in person. I drove more than 2 hours to get there. It was unbelievably crowded. Three groups of 30 people each. I was just shocked that so many people would be let into a supposed sanctuary all at once. Supposedly there are 50 acres or so for the wolves, but we walked just a few short paths seeing perhaps the edges of 4-5 acres tops. The guide talked and talked and talked - I thought, when will see actually see the animals, when will she be quiet, so we can simply appreciate them? I think the most disturbing thing was when she went into the area close to the wolves and called them, and they came like dogs to the fence. She stuck her hands through the fence (which she'd told all of us NOT to do) and she petted them. I think it must have been at once VERY frustrating to every visitor who surely would have loved to have petted a wolf, and disturbing - aren't they supposed to be kept in as natural a habitat as possible? It seemed so hypocritical to me. It would have been nicer if they had signs posted along each enclosure with information about wolves, the stories of each one, etc. There was a huge line to the gift shop so I skipped that. I honestly would not go there again. I am not a big fan of zoos, but I've had better experiences seeing wolves at open zoos than here. So very sad and disappointed. It sort of ruined my day (and my illusion about this place).

From booking to seeing the wolves to shopping in the gift shop and leaving, we had an easy process and a wonderful time. The tour guides are very well informed and gave a lot of information about the wolves. The volunteers who helped check us in were awesome as well as they directed us with direct information on which way to drive, and where to park. They even have handicap parking for those who need it. The gift shop has a lot of merchandise. Prices ranging from 5 dollars on up for products. We will definitely visit again. And we were able to see our adopted wolf privately. Staff is very accommodating. Everyone should visit the wolf sanctuary and support it with donations.

We did a public tour and there was so much information given on the wolves and their histories as well as information on wolves in general. Doing an adoption tour afterwards was also fantastic as you may get additional information or see other wolves not currently on the public tour (if your wolf isn't currently on it). Staff and volunteers were super friendly and we can't wait to go back!

This place is a MUST GO TO in Pennsylvania. My wife and I went here and we were impressed on how much care and information they have and give to all patrons on the wolves. Beautiful creatures they are and they truly give them lots of space and natural habitation. Very well organized and they answer all your questions during a self guided tour. We went on a Full Moon Night and while we were at their Giant Bonfire one wolf started to howl at the moon and then another wolf started howling in response, next thing you hear is the whole wolf pack started to howl at the moon and everyone stopped and stood still…brought chills down my spine. If you have never heard a wolf pack howl LIVE with your own ears, you Must Go and check these guys out. Great gift shop with souvenirs and photos to buy to support this wonderful organization. You wont regret it. My wife and I are planning to return soon.

Sierra, looking at your other reviews, you don't like much. The wolves aren't there for your entertainment...you go to learn about wolves. I drove 3 hours, freezing (winter), and it was well worth the trip.
We have several tour options that range in price depending on the visit. Saturday/Sunday public tours held once per day at 12PM Oct thru May or 10AM June thru Sept are $12 for adults, Weekday tours held once per day Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10AM are $15 for adults. Private Tours booked in advance are $35 per person. Check our website https://wolfsanctuarypa.org/tours-events-2/ for a list of dates, times, and pricing information for all of our tours.
Yes they accept credit cards. I suggest pre paying with card. Especially if you are doing the full moon tour.
Scooters restaurant is also in Lititz , about 20 min. , they actually help support the wolf sanctuary by donating all there fresh meat scraps for the wolves. ....
10 am is when the tour starts on Tuesday and Thursday. As per website they do one tour at that time on each of those days.
Definitely, the guides have been with these wolves for years, as the guides approach the fences they'll come out of the overgrowth.
You need to make reservations due to covid. Groups are limited. Tue Thu and Sat at 10am
Yes they are. For private and public tours.
It is a walking tour with guides explaining various facts and circumstances to their wolves and wolves in general. There is, if I remember correctly, double fencing between the wolves and tourists.
Good
It's amazing. They do great work and great tours. Call ahead to find out tour options. It's a lot of walking though and up large hills
April 20th pink moon
Some of the sanctuary may not be accessible for wheelchairs or scooters . some areas are hilly and ruff but the lower area should be fine. The place is beautiful and I'm sure they will accommodate you as much as possible.
As seen from the majority of the responses in this section, unfortunately, no. The reason is despite the minor differences in species between wolves and dogs, they can still communicate with each other, and I'd guess even more so with wolfdog hybrids. Although this is extremely interesting, as you may know, wolves are very territorial, and therefore they are only comfortable with their family being in said territory, and when another animal who they are unfamiliar with, let alone able to somewhat communicate with comes into their territory, their home, I'd imagine that they wouldn't be the most comfortable. Please by all means still visit if you can! It's a truly amazing place. I hope this helps.
Okay thank you!!
You are joking, right? It's a sanctuary for wolves and wolf-dogs, not a place to get one. Many of their rescues were animals that people figured out too late are not suitable to be "pets."
Yes, there still open. Currently by reservations only. I would highly recommend visiting. Check out website for dates and times.
Yes. Book a tour. Go to website and check the dates for full moon tours. It is beautiful
Keep calling them, do not book online, it's glitchy. I got in that way too by getting on the wait-list. They will call you usually a few days before a tour with open spots and you can either say yes you can take that spot or no if it doesn't work with your availability. I made it work since I knew it would be hard to get in! Good luck!!!
We would advise against trying to raise a wolf as a pet. Owning a wolf is illegal in many states and wolves have different behaviors and needs than a typical dog. Wolves have strong family bonds that can result in separation anxiety when left alone, even for a brief period of time. This may cause them to become very distressed when left alone. Wolves also are highly intelligent and independent and as a result do not respond well to training as domestic dogs. We are a nonprofit rescue facility and many of our rescues come to us due to illegal ownership or they were surrendered because they were unable to receive the necessary care in a household setting. We do have a symbolic adoption program, in which you can support the wolves at the sanctuary annually. You would receive a certificate, photo, and background information on the wolf. You can also visit your adopted wolf to see them on a tour. More information can be found on our website or by contacting us at 7176264617.
The enclosure sizes and quantity of wolves vary depending on how many wolves form that specific pack.
Currently while C19 is interupting life, it's by appointment only. Call for details🐺♥️🐺
This is a privately owned property with a bed and breakfast on site. There are private cottages that you can book for two or more days. The wolf sanctuary of pa shares this property with the bed and breakfast, Speedwell Forge.
Hi Donna, yes we have children on daytime tours. You must have a reservation. You can sign up on line or call us. Thank you.
Best bet is to call and ask or see if they will allow a private tour
Hello Luz, we are not having public tours right now, but we can do private tours. The private tours are $45 per person. You can check information on these tours at wolfsanctuarypa.prg Thank you!
Maybe. Call and talk to Dawn.
No there are alot of hills and Rocky so you could not push a wheel chair but I would call because I'm sure there may be some provisions depending on the disability
Weekends I believe tours start promptly at noon. But you have to have reservations. You can find the information on the website
Guided public tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays can range from 1 to 30 visitors per tour guide, for groups larger than 30 we would schedule additional guides. Private Tours can range from 1 to 15 visitors per guide, for groups larger than 15 we would schedule additional guides as well. Tuesday/Thursday tours and Private Tours must be booked in advance. Weekend tours are often self-guided and can accommodate groups of any size. Tour dates, times, and booking information can be found on our website wolfsanctuarypa.org
It's walking accessible only. There's a bed and breakfast on site, speedwell forge. Not sure about what other accommodations immediate area. Lancaster is short drive and features a lot of activities including Christmas museum
Its an awesome place to visit. They do full up fast.
Closed on monday, wednesday and friday. Other days open 930-10am. And one day a month they have a full moon tour. Also if you stay at their b&b you can go to sanctuary anytime day or night.
None of the above, they are rescues from private owners, zoo GOOB, illegal animal trades, injured and found (they explain why they cant always return them to the wild) etc. They stay there and live out their lives in multiacre enclosures with either their original pack or a made pack. The entire sanctuary is entirely nonprofit all purchases are put towards the well being of the wolves and the safety of the enclosures. They have a dietitian on hand that measures out food for each pack and to make sure the wolves stay healthy and happy.
No you can't. Only seasoned and trained employees are allowed to interact with the wolves.
Here is their website with all their info... www.wolfsanctuarypa.org
You can schedule tours on their website under tours and events.
It depends on what type of tour your doing. My family had a private 2-3 hr tour and it was well worth the $25pp cost. This tour is longer than standard and very detailed. Plus, entrance fees support the sanctuary for those fine animals! We will definately go back!
Saturdays you don't need an appointment. I would recommend arriving at 11 to 1130. They open at 12.
My family booked a private tour and our guide was fantastic! All of the guides are knowledgeable and is impressive how much they know about all the wolves and their history. I believe we were there well over 2 hours! We will be going back! I need to go to gift shop and buy some wonderful gifts they offer to self support the cause! One of our favorite places to visit! Enjoy it for yourselves! The experience is extraordinary!
Hi John, We will be closed on Sunday, April 21st for Easter. However, we will be open for our Public Tour and Full Moon Event on Saturday, April 20th. For more information about tour dates and times, please visit our website at https://wolfsanctuarypa.org/ Thank you!
Went awhile ago , saw many Wolfe's and packs. Best time to go is before leaves are on trees. Eatly spring or fall
I think there were people under 16 when we went but it is likely a liability issue as they have a giant bonfire and it's dark and crowded making it difficult to keep track of your children.
They want you to go and experience the sanctuary. If there are videos some people won't attend
He was in March of 2019 when my son and I did the full moon tour. He started to howl first then the other packs answered him. It brought chills hearing them, the only downside was the entertainment while the wolves were howling they kept talking which drowned out the wolves. Don't get me wrong we enjoyed the entertainment and the information they provided, but we really came to see, learn about but most of all HEAR the wolves. This is my third time tho the sanctuary, my son's first time and we will definitely be back again and again. The work this family is doing is nothing short of amazing.
I was there a year ago and he was there.
Hi Ethan, Thank you for your interest in our Full Moon Events. Due to insurance regulations with the tour being at night, all guests must be at least 16 years old and need to be able to provide some sort of ID to confirm their age. This is a strict insurance ordinance, and we are unable to make any type of exception to this rule.
I believe some they do and others an estimated age.
Hi Nina, thank you for your interest in visiting us! The cost varies depending on the type of tour you attend. Our current standard adult pricing for public tours is $12 on Saturdays/Sundays and $15 on Tuesdays/Thursdays. For the most up-to-date information about the different tour options and pricing, you can visit the Tours & Events page on our website at wolfsanctuarypa.org
Bring stuff for a campfire such as hotdogs and s'mores, including the utensils to cook them with. Bring chairs and arrive early to get a good spot near the fire. I also recommend bringing an umbrella in case it rains. The paths are dirt and potentially muddy so be prepared for that. Also, bring money for the cool stuff in the gift shop. You will see some of the wolves at night and may even get to hear them all howl together. But they are more active during the day tour so you will see more then.
About 30 minutes or so after the first tour until the last tour of the day. Some items are available in the bed and breakfast on the property if you're staying there.
No they are behind fences. You can go up to the fence and watch them closely and watch them be fed but you cannot touch them because they are wild animals
About ten quid a person
I am sure it has to do with the large bonfire and liability.
Hi Lynn! Our Adopt-a-wolf program offers the opportunity to support the wolves for a year by purchasing a symbolic adoption package. The package includes an adoption certificate, professional photo of the wolf, information about the wolf, letter from the founder, and wolf fact sheets and information. For more information and to choose a wolf for the adoption package visit our website wolfsanctuarypa.org.
Hey Donna! As stated in a few of the other responses, there isn't much walking, but this depends on what tour you are planning to take. The private tour is mostly the rear parts of the sanctuary, and is on level ground, an old field, actually. The only obstical you may encounter is a path up a rather steep hill which serves as the access path to the rear enclosures. Other than this, both the upper and lower (front or rear, if you'd like) parts of the sanctuary are mostly level, appart from the off tree root. I managed to get around here just fine with a fractured ankle, as there are hand rails up and down the hill. Hope you enjoy your visit! -Josh.
Right On Sister!!!
We stayed in the Summer Kitchen. It's now listed as$275 a night
I love to wait for the tour begins as participants are gathering the wolves begin to howl an awesome experience get there before 10 AM or yoy will not get into rhe tour
If you go on their website it lists the annual fee to adopt a wolf along with information on each one.
No, they don't breed their wolves. They just give them a safe place to live in peace.
Unfortunately no interaction is allowed with the wolves, and no videotography is allowed, but feel free to take as many pictures as you want! The no videotography rule is purely to maintain an interest for newcomers to come to the sanctuary, as if they have seen video, they may think thats enough for them. If you are like me however, just seeing wolves makes everything better! Hope this helped.....
18. All the volunteer requirements are under their "wish" page. Good luck,
Go to their website you can and can also adopt a wolf and give as a gift.
No you cannot pet the wolves. Some of the experienced volunteers come it contact. Try looking for a place that has wolf "hybrids", you're more likely able to be able to interact with them.
I believe they have some wolf dogs that people can pet at certain times. Contact the sanctuary for specifics.
No. However, you can donate at the sanctuary to help keep them safe and protected
No touching , just looking they
I didn't have to show email, they just asked my name and checked it against a list they have, but I did have the email reservation just in case
They have scheduled times , go to the website to find out when !! The fullmoon tour are great !!
It's a wonderful experience and not to be missed of you are in the area. If it's rainy and you can't go any other day, i would grab an umbrella and go in the rain!
It cost me $20 when I went back in July. Well worth it IMO!
