None of the above, they are rescues from private owners, zoo GOOB, illegal animal trades, injured and found (they explain why they cant always return them to the wild) etc. They stay there and live out their lives in multiacre enclosures with either their original pack or a made pack. The entire sanctuary is entirely nonprofit all purchases are put towards the well being of the wolves and the safety of the enclosures. They have a dietitian on hand that measures out food for each pack and to make sure the wolves stay healthy and happy.
They are there for a variety of reasons-From all over the country. They have an excellent set up. It is nothing close to a zoo. You'll have to go to get the whole story.
The Wolf sanctuary helps wolves who were mis treated or abandoned and they live their lives there til the end. A very good environment!
I believe they aquire them from people whom think they csn have them for pets; from authorities who find out people have them and also injured ones. These i believe dont ever get released.
