My review is long overdue. In April, my dog Grey was dying. She became sick overnight. We took her to our local vet where she was hospitalized. A few hours later, we received a call from the vet and they told us her illness had something to do with her brain and that Grey needed to get an MRI done asap because she was declining fast. They referred us to UC Davis Vet, where we were able to get an appointment that same day. Davis vet got her in as a soon as we got there, it was an hour drive. They performed an MRI on her and they figured out that it was a brain inflammation. Her immune system was attacking her own brain. They decided to treat her inflammation with a medication called Prednisone. She was kept in the ICU for a week while they treated her brain inflammation. We got to take her home after a week. It’s been 3 months since we brought Grey home and she’s back to her normal self. As of now, she’s still on Prednisone. We go for monthly checkups at Davis and her new doctor is slowly reducing her intake little by little. My point is that they SAVED HER LIFE. The morning she was hospitalized, Grey was unrecognizable. Grey was dying and Davis was able to bring her back to us. We will always choose Davis, they know what they’re doing. But I will say, it was very expensive.

Absolutely amazing Doctors and Staff and Team! We brought our dog Ziggy there and they have completely changed our future with the way they took care of him. The skill and treatment they provided is 100% the best veterinary hospital's in the world!

Dr Jennifer Chan Internal Medicine DVM is a top notch doctor, human, and patient advocate. We took our sweet dog in and found out she had an untreatable condition. It was the testing, communication, and guidance that helped us make our decisions so easily. When it came time to say goodbye, Dr Chen called us at 4am and told us our pup was not doing well, she came in and was so kind in our final moments with Macy. It is because of her that we chose in that moment to donate our pup to UCD for science in the hopes that our dog will help teach another person to become a caring, intelligent in their craft, and a strong patient advocate just like Dr Chen. We cannot thank her enough for helping us and Macy.

I've a calico cat. Hypoallergenic. We're low income and bring her here. Had considerably bad luck with experience here. Although there are good vets here and they do take lower income, since after everything has been opening up they've been a mess in organization. I recommend you call immediately, tell them your concern and get on the schedule asap, as it may be some time before seen
Personally I do not know about thyroidisym issue, What I know is they are quite comprehensive and they cured my dogs cancer saved my dog's life. Highly recommend you try !. Tracy.
You can call the small animal clinic and ask them at 530-752-1393. They will probably have better information.
You really need to call them. There would be a blood panel needed, if the dog was over 7, which would cost more.
**** NO THEY DONT!! BECAUSE I WAS HONEST AND TOLD THEM IM BETWEEN HOMES RIGHT NOW. THEY NEGLECTED MY DOGS CARE UNTIL THEY EVEN GOT 1/3 OF THE ESTIMATE PF WHAT HER CARE COULD ENTAIL WITH WAS ABOUT $1,500!!!
Ask for Dr. Jandrey. He is an angel !
You should have further tests on that mass... CT scan, etc. The best place is UCD; they will have a consult with you whether to remove the mass with laparoscopic surgery or something more significant. Do not wait.
You must crush the small pill into a fine powder. Then, on a flat surface draw the result into a long line, even in mass, and divide into 4 equal parts.
I used care credit for a 6900 surgery.
I don't know if they have a specialist for that particular problem. However, what I do, is when my local vets aren't able to figure out what to do, I take my pet to UC Davis Vet clinic and they always solve the problem. I don't go to them all the time because they're expensive, but when all options have been exhausted they are my go to.
Best to go to https://roads.dot.ca.gov/ and type in which freeway. It will show you the most current updates.
I don't know sorry went for my dog. But they were more reasonable than my vet. I would not waste my time and money at the vet go straight to them if you need the procedure they don't price gouge
Hi Emily. Their Veterinary Catastrophic Need Fund might be what you're looking for. "The Veterinary Catastrophic Need Fund provides veterinary medical treatments at the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital for animals that are injured in wildfires, natural disasters or other accidents." https://give.ucdavis.edu/VMTH/V6TH631
Just call them. They take excellent care of your pet!
That is a very reasonable quote.
Please call them at 530-752-1393 and ask.
You should give them a call, the amount of information you can get over the phone is limited but if you tell them you are looking for a second opinion, I'm sure they will help. Be prepared to send all of your dogs medical records by email, should not be a problem for your vet. If you are in the Bay Area, the drive is reasonable. Stage 3 is tough in terms of a better outcome but...ask about clinical trials. My dog has a heart condition which he beat the odds on, but now has a rare cancer - go figure. Anyway they are an excellent organization that I highly recommend. Also, should you need local boarding near Davis, I also highly recommend Dawn Gillette / All Species Animal Care in Woodland, which is close to Davis. Former Davis vet tech who takes care of a lot of animals needing regular treatment or rehab. Reasonably priced, my dog was with her for 8 weeks after CL surgery. Pet insurance will cover.
They do but it is expensive at $120 per day. The alternative I used was recommend to me by their orthopedic department. A former vet tech in nearby Woodland, Dawn Gillette, opened a boarding facility for animals needing medical care. She will take them to Davis for cancer treatment, etc. My dog was with her for 8 weeks while recovering from cruciate ligament surgery. Her place is called All Species Animal Care, it is a veritable Noah's ark. She also takes in large animals evacuated from the fire areas. Cost was $55 per day, well worth it. Highly recommend. Give her a call.
Agree with above, call and see if they can accommodate you. Unfortunately, you typically have to bring the dog in for a consult/biopsy and then surgery is scheduled several days later. Not entirely convenient but wouldn't take my dog anywhere else. Worst case, I recommend All Species Animal Care in Woodland. Your dog can stay there and Dawn will take him in for the surgical appt. Very reasonable and she is a former Davis Vet Tech.
Yes and call them
I brought my dog in and they were very good at working with me financially. You need to call and talk to them!!!!!
Pay at time of service.
I know the Drs have a specific email address for the. Not sure about a general address though
I called, they said they don't do fosters
Its not my clinic I'm just a client of theirs. My dog had a cough too. Turned out she had a bad respiratory infection coupled with low thyroid which made any sickness worse. Sooner you get it properly diagnosed the better. Davis isnt cheap but if i went there first i would have spent half as much as i did getting the run around from other vets. Davis is a teaching hospital. Profit isn't their goal, treating and saving your pet is. You'd have to get a consult with them and schedule early because they were booked 4 to 6 weeks out.
It all depends of the issue, to get an appointment is a little dificultades but they are the best, they won't do unnecessary tests. Their prices were lower than the vet near home. If you go to their website or call them 530-752-1393 7:30-5pm good luck
We went to a private Veterinary practice before we started going to UC Davis. I found the prices to be about the same. You do get a discount if you are a UC Davis employee or retiree.
Yes get a second opinion at UC Davis. I'd be concerned about your new Veterinarian's rush. Agree with above don't use emergency for this. They will guide you to making appointments in the right department. Probably Internal Medicine in the small animal clinic
I can not answer your question, only your veterinarian can after his or her evaluation of your pet.
You must call them, but I know they have extensive veterinary services, they are not cheap. Good luck with your cat.
Banfield at PetSmart as a medical plan for dogs and if you are Kaiser member Kaiser will cover your dog our cat with Banfield you have to buy the medical plan and pay monthly with Kaiser you pay upfront turn your bill into Kaiser and they reimburse you I believe 70% I've heard in some cases people have gotten 100%
Fish oil and groud flax seeds as supplement....vetmedin is good for heart not sure is for artritis. ......maybe fo into raw food you d be surprised a change that could make
There is also the large animal clinic???
They are a teaching veterinarian hospital. They can diagnose and treat your pet. Call them to make appointment.
